Sulbing Malaysia in Pavilion KL

[Pork-free] The popular Korean dessert chain Sulbing has landed in Malaysia.

This famous bingsu franchise from South Korea has opened its first flagship outlet in Pavilion Elite KL.

Not surprisingly, we were pretty excited about this news as injeolmi bingsu (shaved ice with soybean powder) is one of our favourite desserts.

Hence, we decided to check it out last weekend.

Sulbing Malaysia in Pavilion Elite KL

Sulbing is a dessert chain in South Korea, which is known for its bingsu 빙수 (shaved iced) dessert.

For the uninitiated, bingsu is a milk-based shaved iced dessert that is usually served with toppings such as fruits, condensed milk, syrup, and red beans.

Compared to local shaved ice, bingsu has a softer fluffy snow-like texture, and is made from shaved milk or cream.

Just like its South Korean counterparts, this Sulbing branch offers a decent variety of bingsu - such as Fresh Strawberry Sulbing, Red-Bean Melon Sulbing, and King Mango Sulbing.

Sulbing Malaysia also serves pastries such as hotteok and toast.

The bingsu is pricey at Sulbing Malaysia

The bingsu here are priced from RM38 for the basic Injeolmi Bingsu to RM68 for the Shine Muscat Melon Sulbing.

While these come across as pricey - our research showed that the Injeolmi Bingsu in Myeongdong is priced at KRW9,500 (or RM32) which is just slightly cheaper than the one here.

Nevertheless, RM38 is a lot of money to pay for shaved ice. So, what this worth it?

Our favourite Red Bean Injeolmi Sulbing

Given the prices, we decided to just get the Red Bean Injeolmi Sulbing (RM38) which is our favourite anyway.

For the price, the portion is good enough to be shared for two people.

Our impressions: the shaved ice is indeed very soft and fluffy. It is probably the softest bingsu texture we've tried in KL.

We also realised that the shaved ice has a less milky taste compared to the ones in Snow (our favourite - see our post here) and Ben Gong's Tea (post coming soon). This is probably closer to the ones in Seoul - but we still prefer a stronger milky taste.

Nevertheless, the toppings truly stood out for us. The red bean used was very rich, and we also found the almond flakes to be extra toasted for added fragrance.

Summary

If you're craving Korean bingsu, Sulbing KL is worth checking out.

As for us - we only stick to injeolmi bingsu, we find the one at Snow is pretty good at half the price.

Also, we recommend Ben Gong's milk tea bingsu for a strong tea taste with a similar snow-like texture.
