In this blog post, I will be sharing my personal appreciation for yong tau foo, commonly known as YTF, in Singapore. The purpose of this entry is to compile a list of YTF dishes that have caught my palate's attention. I wish to emphasize that my preferences are subjective, influenced by my individual taste preferences, budget considerations, and the geographical accessibility of the respective stalls or restaurants. It is important to acknowledge that these recommendations may or may not reflect a universally acclaimed depiction of Singapore's culinary landscape.

I select my desired ingredients, each priced at 70 cents per piece. The minimum order quantity is 6 pieces, a reasonable requirement. Kindly note that rice and noodles are not included in the YTF selection and would incur an additional cost. The fish paste and pork meat fillings are fresh. Both the regular and fried stuffed items are seasoned, although occasionally the meatballs can be heavily flavoured. Complementary additions such as beans, fried shallots, and spring onions can be included in your soup at no extra charge.

Another YTF stall at the People's Park Food Centre, Chinatown, Singapore offered a similar or slightly better version of the meatballs but I did not know what is the name of the stall and whether the stall is still operating after the renovation in May 2023. Although the meatballs are nice, their food is oily as it did not strain the oil long enough before adding them to the soup. The curry laksa version was okay too.

It is my favourite stall in Tampines besides the YTF stall at Kopitiam Tampines Hub. It has 4.6 stars and five reviews at the point of writing.

Address: 445 Tampines Street 42, Block 445, Singapore 520445.

The YTF stall at Kopitiam Tampines Hub that I liked too, but I did not know why their Google review rating was so low. It has a 2.5 stars. I cannot be sure that all ingredients are freshly made because they gave fried stuffed items. These can be prepared earlier and cooked with the noodles. However, I think the size is quite generous with 6 items at a single price. Kindly note that rice and noodles are not included in the YTF selection and would incur an additional cost.

Address: 495 Tampines Ave 5, #01-32 Hawker Centre @ Our Tampines Hub, Singapore 529649.

The only outlet at Geylang Bahru Food Centre, and there is always a long queue during lunchtime. There are reviews about this stall on Google reviews, and it has 4.6 stars which I think is one of the good YTFs around this area. It has both clear soup and curry laksa versions, and we can choose the types of noodles too. Their ingredients are fresh, and lighter taste.

Address: 69 Geylang Bahru, #01-07 Market & Food Centre, Singapore 330069.

There are two outlets located in Singapore, both situated on the East side. Each stall has received a commendable rating of 4.0 stars and above on Google reviews. One aspect that I find particularly appealing about this establishment is its pay-forward concept. In terms of the culinary experience, I personally suggest that the stuffed fillings, which consist of a blend of pork and fish meat, be enhanced with more flavours or robust seasoning. In my understanding, traditional Hakka YTF incorporates salted fish for added depth. Furthermore, their noodles are skillfully prepared to an al dente consistency, with the overall flavour derived from the minced meat.

It has many branches in Singapore, and the one that I like the most is in Chinatown People's Park Food Centre. It has a long queue during lunchtime. Their ingredients are freshly made and cooked on the spot. I cannot choose what I want to get, but I can omit bitter gourd if I do not eat it. It is a soup version with bee hoon only, no other type of soup or noodles. They have other side dishes, and I would recommend their fried chicken wings.

Address: 270 Queen St, #01-106, Singapore 180270.
