I don't know why but in every city I go to in the Philippines, there is always a church or a religious place where you need to climb a hundred steps or more to reach the top. Most of these places are situated in hillsides with a church or grotto on top. It's like a testament of your faith. If you want to reach the top, you have to persevere and climb.

The steps towards the grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes Grotto in Baguio City, Philippines.

I guess it's really nothing new, especially for a Catholic country like the Philippines. And Filipinos, whether if it's because of their faith or not, would never back down on a challenge. They'll steadily climb up those stairs, rest in between and take photos with friends, and then continue climbing up. The view from the top is often breathtaking, giving you an amazing vantage point of the land from where you stand. But sometimes, that view may be obstructed by buildings; a sign of progress and how far the city has come.

But no matter what the view may be, what matters is the journey up. The reward may not be as fantastic as you may think but the climb up is the one that matters. During that climb, you'll be able to think about stuff, some might even use that time to reflect. Others use that time to spend time with friends and family, making the climb as enjoyable as they can despite the tiredness. So yeah…people don't climb those steps for nothing. They each have a reason for doing so. 😁
