Simple Beef Burgers

As a child I never remember my Dad buying burgers from the supermarket. Dad would always make his burgers from scratch. Therefore as an adult I have never brought burgers from the supermarket either. Although I have to admit my burgers were always big and round. They never stayed flat like burgers you would find in certain fast food restaurants. These are the types of burgers I think my husband Howard remembers as a child. He has often questioned why my burgers aren't flat.

To be honest, I have often asked myself this question. Recently I decided to do a little bit of research on how to make your burgers stay flat when cooking them. I discovered a couple of tips/hacks. Firstly the burger must be flattened like a pancake and secondly the burger must have a dip in the middle. I tried these hacks and I was amazed at the results. Therefore I thought I'd share my findings with you in this simple burger recipe.

Method for the burgers

  • Measure the flaxseed and add enough water to cover it completely.
  • You may need more water or a little bit less depending on how big or small your flaxseed tablespoon portions.
  • Leave to soak through for 5 minutes or so.
  • Add the mince or ground beef to a mixing bowl and sprinkle over the dried mixed herbs.
  • Now add salt and pepper to your taste and then add the tomato puree.
  • Pour over the wet flaxseed and scrunch all these ingredients together with your hands.
  • Once everything is well mixed together divide the mixture into four even parts.
  • Now flatten the burger and make sure their is a dip in the middle of the burger.
  • It will hopefully stop if from rising when in the oven.
  • Place the burgers onto a baking tray and put into the oven for about 25 - 30 minutes or until golden brown on the outside.
  • Then serve with chips and salad or beans and enjoy.
Simple Beef Burgers

Simple Beef Burgers were gratefully received by my little family. Howard and my son Ted love burgers so I knew the plates would be clean by the end of the meal. The burgers could be made in advance of a meal and frozen before cooking. If you are making these for a mid week meal then it would save you time. Once the burgers have been cooked I personally wouldn't freeze them. These burgers were delicious with chips and salad. They could be eaten in buns or with beans too. However you decide to eat these burgers, as always, please enjoy.
