Japanese Lacquer is the elegant vision of Toba Shitsugei: Gold or silver leaf with a delicate grain enveloping the glasses with a finesse that alone defines Kongo Ishime Nuri art which is also registered as an Intangible Cultural Property of Japan.
Thanks to this glassware, which cannot be found anywhere else, since it uses the famous sand of the Abe River in Shizuoka, you will add a lot of color to your meals and a lot of delicacy to your drinks.
Mr. Toba is an artisan-lacquerer who has been perpetuating the tradition for three generations. The work of the lacquer is done by successive layers, in a process lasting weeks and using sand for its base. It is the only Japanese lacquer technique to do so, this method guarantees a particular resistance to the glassware.
Shizuoka is one of the centers of Japanese lacquer since 14th century, historically a point of passage and settlement of countless craftsmen, it was also the birthplace of the greatest of the Japanese Shoguns (Tokugawa Ieyasu) to whom Japan owes many of its finest arts.
Now the Toba style is designed for modern use in our everyday meals.
