Okay, this is the second time I'm reading this book and I have a few points to make.
First, I love how the story continues from the first book. It really leaves the readers wanting more because of all the questions and mysteries. I think every chapter leaves you hanging. But that's the charm of the entire series. It's all about the secrets that will slowly unfold through the series.
Second, I am loving Machiavelli all over again in this book. I love his little quips and arguments with Dee. And I especially love the contrast between the two antagonists. When Machiavelli said that he never gave up his humanity when he became immortal, it really made me go "awwww." And the concern he showed for Josh down in the catacombs, really touching. But then again…we don't know for sure if he's sincere or he's just playing a role to get Josh over to his side.
And lastly, Josh. He is such a petty little brat in this book. True, that he showed a little gut here and there but the way he's acting up really got me annoyed with his character. I really hope he mans up soon and stop being all petty and jealous. He's the typical teenage character that is easily swayed. Why are all boys written like that? Oh well…let's see if he'll be less annoying in the third book.
PS: Just like in The Alchemyst, I wanted to do amlittle shout out to the prologue. The first line of the book is pretty depressing. But it suits the situation. Oh, and featured here is a bookmark that I recycled. It's one of the tags from one of my shirts.
