I'm a fan of mysteries and thriller movies. I always love a hood mystery and the build up that comes with it as the story unfolds. Secret Window was one of the last movies I watched back when movie rentals was a thing. It was as disturbing and thrilling as I remember it.
Deets:
Secret Window is a 2004 psychological thriller based on the Stephen King short story Secret Window, Secret Garden. It stars Johnny Depp as Mort Rainey. The movie follows his story and the story of Shooter, the enemy he thought he has.
Plot:
Secret Window is about the story of Mort Rainey, a writer suffering from writer's block and a divorce. Mort has retreated to his cabin in the country to try and overcome the events unfolding around him. Unfortunately, nhe ended up with more than he bargained for. A man named Shooter suddenly showed up in his doorstep claiming to be the original author of one of Mort's stories. From then on nasty things started to hapoen with a lot of people disappearing.
My Thoughts:
Anything based on a Stephen King work will definitely be disturbing. The first time I watched Secret Window, I was so enthralled by the story and the plot development. I was also very dustrubed because I realized that a lot of people goes through what Mort went through. And there's a really high possibility that a lot of people will end up with an undiagnosed mental health illness.
Anyway, the story was really good. The build up and the plot twists were so good. I was really hooked. But the ending was quite meh. After all the build up, the movie lost steam. The ending was pretty okay. The story started with Mort and ended with him. I wasn't left hanging or anything. All the questions were answered and the fate of two of the characters were clearly implied. It just felt lacking in a way. I really can't explain it but even though it was good, I still felt they could have done more. And Johnny Depp's prowess wasn't fully utilized here. But it's still a nice watch.
