Today's recipe is Grandma Scully's Oatmeal Cookies #3 (as usual, that means there are 3 different recipes simply named Oatmeal Cookies)! Grandma Scully is my mother-in-law's mother (my husband's grandmother), and when my MIL recently moved, I was lucky enough to be able to scan and save several of her mother's handwritten recipes! You know how I feel about family and ancestral recipes - they're so special - I just love that! My MIL is now 97, and it was also special to be able to bake these and bring some to her, giving her a taste of her mother's baking after so many years. That's how the love is passed down. Being able to use these old family recipes is just the best, and while I never met her, I bet Grandma Scully would be thrilled about passing the recipes on, too!

Here is the recipe as I made it:
Oatmeal Cookies
Cream together:
2/3 cup butter
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
Add:
1 cup nuts, chopped (I used walnuts)
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 cups oatmeal
1/2 cup sour milk (I used milk with a splash of apple cider vinegar)
Sift together and add:
2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
3/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
Fold in:
1 cup raisins
Bake at 350-375 degrees (I set the oven at 375) for 10-12 minutes (my oven took about 14 minutes).

This recipe is easy with the different sections - this is the first section creamed together.

Here are the second section of ingredients - they are mixed in next.

Next are all the dry ingredients - they are mixed in and then the raisins folded in.

Look at the the pretty little cookies - right out of the oven!

Oh yes - they're perfect with a cup of coffee.

This made a nice, big batch so you can keep some in your cookie jar - that is, if you can keep any that long!

I think it's so special that this recipe came from my husband's grandma, and I'm so grateful that my mother-in-law kept her mother's handwritten recipes all these years! I love that! I'm glad we were able to bring her some of these cookies made from her mother's recipe. It's nice that it makes a lot of cookies, so there will be enough for your whole family. Maybe you can keep some around longer than we did, but they're a delicious cookie to have with your afternoon coffee. Enough said.
Make a batch of these delicious Oatmeal Cookies #3, and maybe someday you'll pass the recipe on to your family members!
