Jack Kilby won the 2000 Nobel Prize in Physics for the integrated circuit.
The chip. In July 1958, as a new engineer for Texas Instruments, he invention solved the problem of calculations that could be done in the palm of a hand.
Without this invention, technology may not have advanced in speed, memory, and processing power as it has today, 65 years later.
Although he may not be widely known, those who are aware of his invention give him the utmost credit and recognition for the advancement of technology, whether it is typing on a laptop in a coffee shop, or ordering groceries online, Kilby's invention was substantial.
For more, I highly recommend reading The Chip by TR Reid.
