今日は２週間に１度の刺繍の集まりがある日で、特別ゲストのお話がある日でした。集まりに参加する前にいつも送り迎えをしてくださるお隣のお友達と一緒に、アランデルの「The Swan Hotel」でランチをしました。わたしは、ソーセージサンド、美味しくいただきました。
今回のゲストは Diana Springall さんで、この世界では著名な方なのだと思います。日本でも出版された「イギリスの近代刺繍」を始め、御本も何冊か出版されていて、ご本人が刺繍された作品も V & A Museum などで展示されていますし、多くの近代刺繍作品をたくさん集めておられ、刺繍をアートとして認識してもらうための活動を熱心にされている方。素晴らしい作品もお持ちくださいましたし、御本も１冊ずつプレゼントしてくださいました。お話もとても興味深かったです。いつでもアトリエに刺繍作品のコレクションを見に来てください、とおっしゃっていました。
Today's guest speaker was Diana Springall, who is amongst the most well-known in the field. She has published a few books including "Twelve British Embroiderers", which was published in Japan as well, and her work is found in many collections including V & A Museum. Throughout her career, she has campaigned for the promotion of embroidery as a true art form and has an extensive collection of contemporary pieces from various artists showcasing embroidery as fine art. She brought a few amazing pieces of work to show us and also gave a book of hers to everyone. Her talk was very engaging. She told us that we can visit her atelier to see her collection any time.
