As I ventured forth, my eyes were captivated by the illustrious Heartland Mall, an oasis of retail delights nestled in the heart of this vibrant neighbourhood. I embarked on an epicurean quest inspired by a YouTube video encounter. It led me to the legendary Kovan 219 Market and Food Centre, where the renowned Simon Road Hokkien Mee beckoned with its gastronomic promises.
With bated breath, I approached the humble stall and discovered a scene devoid of queues, allowing me to claim a throne at the forefront. I ordered a small portion of their famed Hokkien mee. The uncle served it directly to my table and took my buzzer away after waiting for a while. I marvelled at the skilful use of thin vermicelli, which absorbed the savoury broth.
My eyes searched for the prawns and other delectable ingredients until the truth unveiled itself. It gave 3 medium-sized prawns and some squids. It was the transformative power of lime juice and chilli that truly bewitched my palate. With a gentle squeeze of citrus and a mingling of zesty heat, the flavours intensified. Admittedly, the absence of pork lard and pork belly.
Overall, I would prefer the wetter version with thin vermicelli.
