Contrary to conventional business sense, which would generally hold that offering a greater selection of products will generate higher sales, I'm finding that not entirely to be the case at book fairs. Over the past couple years, I tried increasing stock at every event, both selection and quantity, but realized that each school seemed to have an upper ceiling in total sales, no matter how much was on the table. Conversely, reducing stock did not not seem to have a proportionally negative impact on sales, perhaps 10% reduction = 2% decrease in sales. I believe that it's because most students come with a finite amount of cash, which they'll look to spend on whatever's on the table; when they've spent the money, they're done. Selection would affect older students and adults, who are likely only to buy something that they specifically want, which would account for the 2% drop. I'm happy to lose a bit of revenue if a smaller load makes it that much easier for my team to pack, load, move, unload, arrange, monitor, repack, load, move unload, unpack.
