It's been a beautiful day all day today! Around lunch time, I said to my husband, "Can we go to Leonardslee Lakes & Gardens?" but he said, "Not today because the roof guy is coming to mend the roof after 3:00pm". What a shame! It's such a lovely day today and it'll be raining for the next few days... but after 3:00pm is too late, so I gave up the idea and was on my PC in my craft room and heard someone coming in before 2:00pm. I was wondering if the roof man came early and he did, apparently he was near us so he came early and he was gone very quickly. (Well, we've had the roof mended a few times in the last 6 months or so, but apparently it's not something that can be mended easily and a part of the roof have to come down, it'll cost nearly £5,000! So sad.) So we managed to go out around 2:00pm.
Leonardslee Lakes & Gardens has a long history, but the current entrepreneur purchased it in 2017, renovated it and, after 9 years work, reopened it to the public. It's about an hour away from us by car and their website showed rhododendrons and azelias looking beautiful and I thought they must be looking nice now. Flowers are early this year so I wasn't sure how good they would be but they were really beautiful. Those in the areas where the sun hits for long hours were over their peak, many already fallen, but those in the areas which are in shade for many hours were still in buds and those in between were looking quite good. The shocking pink ones were particularly eye catching and beautiful. The best view of them was from the top of the rock garden area. Looking at the photos, though, I wonder if it's not the peak yet, it looks like there are quite a lot of bushes that don't have flowers yet.
After admiring them, we walked down to the lakes, then walked up again. In total, we walked about 4km, 5700 steps. We were walking around 10,000 steps a day in Europe so that isn't much, but I'm glad we managed to walk more than we have been doing since we got back from our holiday.
Apologies for adding so many photos. The most beautiful parts are about the middle.

After walking around the gardens, we sat at their cafe and had a tea/coffee and a cake to share. The entrance ticket for an adult is £15.50 and you also have to pay for the parking (a little more than £4), so it seems quite expensive but the display of rhododendrons & azelias was gorgeous and very impressive, so we were very happy that we visited it and we will try to go back next year.
