今日は比較的良いお天気だったので、お昼過ぎにお庭をぐるっと周ったのですが、先日ガーデンセンターで買って植えた赤い唐辛子の苗がなくなっていました（涙）、リスが食べたみたいです、ショック。すぐ側に穴も掘られていました。
It's been quite a nice day today, the sun has been out often. Still cold, though. When the sun was out I went out to the garden and walked around and found a chilli pepper plant that we bought and planted some days ago is completely gone! So sad. I guess a squirrel ate it, there was a hole near there, too.
日本は、ゴールデンウィークに入りましたね。ご旅行される方も多いのでしょうか。
Japan has gone into the Golden Week, I guess many people are travelling.
お隣のお友達のご主人様がこの１週間、お友達とご旅行で留守にされています。明日お戻りになるのですが、お留守の間に一度夕食にお誘いしようと思っていました。色々とご予定があって忙しくはされているようですし、お一人も慣れていらっしゃるとは思うのですが、コロナ以来１週間一人なのは初めてではないかと思うので気分転換になって良いかなと思ってのことですが、結局、ご主人様が戻られる前日になってしまいました。火曜日にランチに来ていただきましたが、夕食をお誘いできる日がなかなかなくて、今日になってしまいました。
We invited our next door friend to a dinner today. Her husband is away for a week on holiday with his friend and will be back tomorrow. I wanted to invite her to a dinner one evening because I thought it would be nice to have a change as I have a feeling this might be the first time to be alone this long since the though she is quite busy and is also used to being on her own. We did invite her to lunch on Tuesday but hadn't had a good day to invite her in the evening until today. Shame it's the day before her husband comes home.
今日は、夫がお得意のパンケーキ・カネロニを作ってくれるというので、わたしは楽をさせていただけました！さっとお掃除をしてテーブルを整えて、サラダを作っただけ。パンケーキ・カネロニはミートソース、パンケーキ、ホワイトソースを作らなくてはいけないのでラザニアよりも手間なのですが、夫は作り慣れているせいかストレスに感じないみたいです。これまで、何度かわたしのお友達が食事に来てくださったときに夫が作ってくれたことがあるのですが、多分、ほとんどがこのパンケーキ・カネロニだったと思います。ほとんどの人が好きな系統のお料理ですし、手間はかかりますが最後はオーブンに入れて完成なので直前にバタバタとしなくて良いのも魅力です。
My husband said he would cook Pancake Cannelloni, which is one of his favourite dinner to cook, so I didn't have to do much. All I did was a quick cleaning, setting the table and made a salad. Pancake Cannelloni is quite time consuming because you have to make meat sauce, white sauce and also pancakes, more work than Lasagna, but my husband doesn't seem to mind it because he is so used to making it. He's cooked quite a few times for my friends for dinner parties. It's something most people can enjoy and there isn't anything you have to do just before you serve, you put it in the oven and can enjoy pre-drinks or whatever before you serve it.
テーブルは、いつものようにシンプルの極みです。イギリスのお友達でテーブルセッティングを楽しんでおられる方はいないので（テーブルクロスなしでマットのみ、食器もあれこれ変える方は少ないと思います）、ますます、シンプルになっています。元々シンプルですが、以前はもう少し工夫していました。でも、「おもてなしをしています」的な雰囲気になると気を遣われる方が多い気がするので、こちらでは更にカジュアルにするよう意識しています。
The table setting is very simple as usual. None of my friends seem to enjoy setting a table (no table cloth, just mats and they don't use different plates etc) so my table setting has become very simple. It has always been simple because I don't like it to be too fussy but I used to add a little more or have nicer flowers etc. Here, I feel if it looks like I 'tried' people don't necessarily enjoy it, so I actually 'try' to keep it very simple and casual looking.
