今日は、久しぶりになる義弟夫婦とのキャッチ・アップ・ランチでした。ランチの場所は「Onslow Arms」というパブでギルフォードの近くなので、我が家からは１時間ちょっと。丁度到着した頃に雨がぱらつきましたが、ランチをしている間に上がっていました。駐車場がいっぱいで驚いたのですが、パブの中もやはり一杯。１つ、テーブルが余裕なくぎっちりとたくさん置かれている広いお部屋があり、そのお部屋だったらあまり居心地が良くなかったと思いますが、幸い、良い雰囲気の場所のテーブルだったのでゆっくりとランチをいただきました。とても混んでいましたが、思っていたほどには待たなかったように思います。もっとも、おしゃべりに忙しくてそれほど時間を気にしていなかった、というのもあります。終わって出たら、４時でした。
We had a catch up lunch with my husband's younger brother and his wife today, we hadn't seen them for a couple of months. We went to "Onslow Arms" near Guildford. Just when we arrived it started to rain a little but it had stopped by the time we finished lunch. The parking was surprisingly busy and so was the pub. There was one very large room with so many tables close to each other, we wouldn't have been very happy if our table were there, but luckily our table was in a much nicer area so we were able to talk quietly and enjoy a leisurely lunch. Although the pub was very busy, we didn't feel we waited as long as we expected - but then we had lots to chat about so maybe we just didn't notice. It was nearly 4:00pm when we left the pub.
わたしは、前菜代わりにフラットブレッド（ガーリックバター乗せ）をいただきました。
I had a flat bread with garlic butter as a starter.
義妹は、プロウンカクテル。肝心のえびが見えていませんが（笑）。もう少し、海老がすごくたくさんあったのでもう少し少なくて良いので、もっとレタスが欲しかったと言っていました。写真ではそう見えませんが、かなり大きな器でした。
My sister-in-law had Prawn Cocktail - you cannot see much of the prawns in the photo but there were a lot of them, she said she would have liked fewer prawns and more lettuce. The photo doesn't look so but the glass was actually quite large.
男性２人は、チキンのパルフェ。添えてあるパンがカリッと焼いてあるともっと美味しいのに、と言っていました。
The two guys had Chicken Parfait. It was a shame that the slices of bread weren't toasted to give crispy texture.
わたしは、チキンサテー。これは、サテーではないだろう。サテーというと、串に刺してあるのを想像します。まぁ、それは良いのですが、焼き色がないのが残念でした。でも、お味は良くて美味しかったです。ピーナッツ風味のドレッシングのチキンサラダ、ですね。
I had Chicken Satay. I wouldn't call this Satay, to me satay is charred and skewered. I didn't mind they weren't skewered so much but some charred bits would have made it much nicer. Still, it tasted nice as a chicken salad with peanut sauce dressing.
義妹のメインは、たら。
My sister-in-law had Cod for the main.
夫は、ビーフパイ。
My husband had Beef Pie.
義弟は、バーガー。
My brother-in-low had Burger.
デザート。わたしは、スティッキー・トフィー・プディング。ソースは別添えにしていただきました。まぁまぁ、かな。甘すぎることはなかったのですが、食感が結構荒いスポンジの食感で、もう少しふわっとしているのが好み。
For dessert, I had Sticky & Toffee Pudding with the sauce on the side. It was so-so. It wasn't too sweet but the texture was a bit off - quite rough texture. I prefer light and fluffy.
義妹は、フルーツサラダ。イギリスのフルーツサラダってりんごと葡萄くらいで、あまり食指がわかない。
My sister-in-law had Fruit Salad. Fruit salads in England are quite boring to me, just apples and grapes? Not a lot of different kinds of fruits.
義弟は、アフォガート。
My brother-in-law had Affogato.
夫は、イートンメス。
My husband had Eaton Mess. He is ready to eat!
たくさんキャッチアップをして、楽しい時間でした。食事も割と美味しかったですし、サービスも混んでいた割にはスムーズだったように思いました。義弟夫婦はいつもお忙しいですが、特に夏は旅行だとかで忙しくなるので、次に会えるのは７月かな、と言う感じです。
It was lovely to catch up with them. The food was not bad, the service was quite smooth considering how busy it was. My brother-in-law and his wife are always busy but specially during the summer with various things including travelling, so it looks like it'll be in July when we can see them next.
