Friday night Smash Burgers at The Sir John Borlase Warren

April 5

On Friday we were on a bit of a pub crawl around Canning Circus, we had already navigated the Organ Grinder, The Falcon, and The Good Fellow George before finding ourselves here in The Sir John Borlase Warren.

Once I got meself comfortable with a nice pint of Everards Sunchaser I suddenly found myself a bit peckish so perused the menu to see what was on offer

SMASH BURGER MENU

It seems that they were doing a whole load of smash burger action something I could easily get down with so I took a punt on their cheapest and most basic offering the AMERICAN CLASSIC.

Detailed very simply on the menu as "Smash Patty, American Cheese, Ketchup, Mustard, Pickles" for £9.95 with fries. That sounded good enough for me so we ordered two of them

If was feeling more bold I would have opted for either THE ADMIRAL which is a 'Double Patty, Pepperoni, Smoked Cheese, Truffle Mayo, and Crispy Onion' or the SMOKEY JOE listed as a 'Smash Patty, Smoked Bacon, Smoked Cheese, Chilli Jam, and Crispy Onion' but since both were £12.95 a full 3 quid more than the American Classic I wanted to check out how they served that before splashing too much cash

AMERICAN CLASSIC

This turned out to be a fairly decent effort and quite a tasty little bite of food. If I am being at all critical I would say that it was perhaps more of a squashed burger than a smashed and could have benefited from a little more char on the grill top. 🧐

I was very happy that the cheese was properly melted into a proper comfort blanket coating the top of the meat patty. I always prefer that to a half melted slice 🥳

Taste wise the classical mix of ketchup and mustard along with a bit of pickle was most welcome on my taste buds. I find that is always a winning combination and as always most welcome on my taste buds 🥰

The bun was well toasted, sure perhaps it had caught in places, but just like my toast I do like it with a slight hint of burnt so I would not complain 🤣

Would I have another one? Yes I think I would, It was a good pub burger and better than many, actually better than the last burger I ate here. I would happily try another one on another visit as it certainly hit the spot and was a decent pub snack alongside a pint 🍺

Next time I think I would be a lot more adventurous and check out one of the more extravagant options like the SMOKEY JOE or THE ADMIRAL

The Sir John Borlase Warren is located at 1 Ilkeston Road in Nottingham and is pretty much easily found on the triangular island where the road splits into Derby Road and Alfreton Road

It is a great pub to include in a pub crawl around Canning Circus as you can fit 4 pubs in within a few minutes walk of each other. That is what we normally do 😎
