Jayeondo Salt Bread 자연도소금빵

[Pork-free] Jayeondo Salt Bread in Ikseon-dong serves one of the best salt bread in town.

We had one of the best salt bread we've eaten at Jayeondo Salt Bread 자연도소금빵 in Seoul. We enjoyed this so much that we visited the spot twice during our recent Seoul trip.

Jayeondo Salt Bread  자연도소금빵 in Inkseon-dong

Salt bread has become a trendy offering in South Korea with many bakeries offering the bread. During our recent trip, we tried salt bread from three bakeries, but the one from Jayeondo Salt Bread is the best we've ever had.

In fact, it was even better than the ones we've tried in KL as well.

Jayeondo Salt Bread  자연도소금빵 is one of the more popular bakeries to serve salt bread in Seoul.

We visited the branch located in Ikseon-dong as it was only a 5-minute walk from our hotel in Insadong. The bakery is also easily accessible from the Anguk (along the orange line 3) and Jongno 3 metro stations (blue line 1).

Compared to the other bakeries, Jayeondo Salt Bread 자연도소금빵 serves only one type of salt bread - which is the traditional kind with no other toppings.

Jayeondo only uses premium ingredients

While Jayeondo lacked variety, it excelled in quality.

According to literature, chief patissier Mr Chun had experimented with 100 different ingredients and 1,000 baking tests before settling the final recipe.

Jayeondo only uses Canadian butter, 100% AOP-certified French butter, and sun-dried French salt for this recipe.

The best salt bread we've eaten

The result is the best salt bread we've eaten! The pictures do no justice as the bread has the crispiest exterior, while the insides remain pillowy soft, airy and moist. The other salt breads we've tried (including the one at Soha Salt Pond on the same row) were more dense and less fragrant than Jayeondo's.

It also has the right amount of buttery texture (almost similar to a really good croissant) and we could really taste the fragrant butter and salt in each bite.

Baked fresh six times a day

These salt breads are freshly baked six times a day and sold in batches at 9.00 / 12.00 / 14.00 / 15.30 / 17.00 / 18.30.

On both occasions, we arrived to purchase the first batch at 9am. These salt bread are best enjoyed warm and fresh out of the oven, but they remain just as good when cooled down.

To order, first make your purchase at the machine. After making your payment, then queue at the other line to collect your bread.

The salt bread are only sold in bags of four for KRW12,000 (USD8.70). Trust us - these are not enough as we could easily devour one bag in a single sitting.

Aside from the salt bread, Jayeondo also sells coffee and freshly squeezed Hallabong orange juice. We recommend the latter as the natural sweetness pairs well with the salt bread.

Summary

As you can probably tell, we HIGHLY RECOMMEND this spot. We'll definitely come back here again when we return to Seoul.
