今日は、本当に良いお天気でした。ただ、気温はまだ低くて風が吹くと結構寒い。それでも、良いお天気だったので、街の人たちは比較的薄着でした。わたしはまだ寒くて、中は夏服っぽいですがコートは短い冬っぽいバイカージャケットのようなものを着ましたが、それでも風が強くて日陰では寒かったです。明日、明後日はまた雨が降るようなのですが、火曜日からはお天気が良さそうで気温も１８度、１９度まで上がるようです。やっと、春、でしょうか。
It's been a beautiful day today, but still cold with wind. Still, with such sunny weather in general people were wearing springy clothes in town. I wore something very light but put on a wintry biker's jacket and it still felt cold in the shade with the wind. Apparently it'll rain again tomorrow and the day after, but the forecast says it'll be sunny and warm from Tuesday for a while, the temperature is expected to go up to 19C around here, so finally the spring has come?
昨日は、ランチから戻ると５時過ぎでしたが、夕方はお天気が良かったのでちょこっと草抜きをしました。そして、その前の日は、クロッカスやアリウムの葉っぱを一部切って処分しました。クロッカスってお花が終わってからもずいぶん長い間葉っぱは元気で、しかもどんどん太く長くなる上にべたっと地面に広がって広い地面を覆ってしまいます。見た目が良くないこともありますが、近くに植えてある植物の上にべたっと広がるので下の植物が育たないのです。本当は茶色くなるまでそのままにしておいて球根が栄養を吸収するまでは切ってはいけないそうなのですが、あまりに見た目が悪かったり下の植物の邪魔をしているところは切り取ってしまいました。アリウムも同じだと思っていたら、もうそろそろ葉っぱは切ってしまっても良いと先日 Sara Raven のサイトで読みました。アリウムは葉っぱが大きくて、１つの茎にいくつも葉っぱがついていて、やっかいです。水仙の葉っぱも邪魔ですが、水仙の葉っぱは今の所立ち上がっているので、まぁいいか、と言う感じです。
Yesterday, it was already a little after 5:00pm when we got back from lunch but the sun was still warm enough so I did some weeding. On the day before yesterday, I cut back the leaves of crocuses and alliums. I know you aren't supposed to cut leaves of crocuses until they are brown so the bulbs can absorb the nutrients but they are looking so messy. They are not only messy but also covering up a lot of plants from getting the sun and those under the leaves are not growing, so I decided to cut them this year. I thought allium leaves are also supposed to be left until much later but I read on Sara Raven's website that the bulbs have already absorbed what they need so you can already cut them off. Alliums have so many very wide leaves from each bulb, they are such a pain. Narcissus leaves are also pain after the flowers but they are at least still standing up, so they aren't covering too much ground.
そんなこんなで、この時期から１０月頃までは雑草もどんどん育ちますし、切り戻しをしなくてはいけない植物も多くて、お庭仕事に時間を取られます。
The weeds grow so fast now until around October, so we need to weed as often as we can and also there are a lot of plants that need cutting back sometime before it gets cold, so I'll be spending more time in the garden than I want to.
さて、今日の夕食は土曜日なので夫担当！でも、なぜかわたしがアイデアを出すことが多いです、自分が担当している時は思いつかないのに夫が担当の時は結構思いつく不思議。今日は、「リバー・カフェ・クック・ブック・イージー」のパスタで、ズッキーニやケイパーや唐辛子が入ったパスタ。かなりシンプルなパスタなので、わたしも大好きです。ズッキーニはレシピよりかなりふと義理にしています、その方がシャキシャキと仕上げるのに失敗が少ないと思います。さっぱりとしていて、とても美味しかったです。塩加減もバッチリでした。
My husband is in charge of cooking dinner today as it's a Saturday, but for some reason I often end up giving him an idea of what to cook. I often get stuck with ideas when I cook myself but I seem to be able to come up with an idea when my husband is in charge of cooking. Today's dinner was a pasta dish from "River Cafe Cook Book Easy" - with courgette, capers & chilli. It's a simple pasta dish so I love it. We cut courgette much thicker than the recipe, this way you don't easily over cook it. It was light and delicious! The seasoning was also perfect!
お花は、先日、セインズベリーというスーパーで買ったピオニー（£6、¥１５００）とお庭のビバーナム。今年はビバーナムがたくさん咲いてくれているので、曲がって地面に着きそうな枝を切って飾ってみました。
The flowers are peonies from Sainsbury's (£6) and viburnum from our garden. This year, viburnums are full of flowers, some branches have bent and the flowers are nearly on the ground so I cut those and arranged with peonies).
