デボンでの３日目は、わたしが若い頃にイギリスに英語留学をした時に最初のクラスの先生だった方とランチをしました。たまたま、わたしがイギリス人の夫と結婚したので夫の家族に会うためもあり、ほとんど毎年イギリスに来ていたので、その度にわたしのホストファミリーに会いにエクセターにも行っていたため、先生ともコンタクトをずっと取れています。
On the 3rd day in Devon, we had lunch with our friend, who was my first teacher at an English school when I came to England to learn English all those years ago. As I happen to get married to an English guy I was able to visit England nearly every year partly to see my husband's families but also for a holiday, so I've been able to keep in touch with my host family and also with this friend.
場所は、エクセターのトプシャムというところのパブ、「The Globe」に行きました。トプシャムには大昔に行ったことがありますが、ゆっくり歩いてことはなく、今回ちらちらっとお店を外から見てだけですがブティックがいくつもあって、見て歩くのも楽しそうでした。ここはエクセターではちょっと素敵なところという位置付けなのですが車を停めるのに困るところで、この日行ったパブには駐車場がありませんでした。夫が事前にチェックして、近くに一般の家庭の駐車場を時間貸ししているところがあったので、そこを予約しておきました。
We went to a pub The Globe in Tomsham for lunch. We went there decades ago but I don't remember much about walking the street, but this time I saw many nice looking boutiques, it may be fun to go in those shops next time. In Exeter, Topsham is regarded as a nice posh area but the problem is parking as there aren't a lot of places you can park. My husband did some research in advance and found a parking slot that belongs to someone that you can use paying per hour, which was just a few minutes' walk to the pub.
夫は、前菜からコチュジャンを使ったチキン・ボンボンをオーダーしました。少し食べましたが、美味しかったです。ただ、味がかなりしっかりしていたので（ミンチのチキンにコチュジャンを混ぜて丸めて揚げたものでした）、添えてあるコチュジャンマヨは必要ない感じ。
My husband had Kochujan Chicken Bon Bon. I had a little to try and it was quite nice, but didn't need the Kochujan Mayonnaise as there was enough Kochujan in the meatballs.
そして、メインはスカンピ。
He then had Scampi.
お友達とわたしは、コロネーションチキンのナンサンド。チキンが硬すぎることなく、味がないこともなく、普通に美味しくいただきました。この日は夜はまたホテルでのディナーだったので、夜にはお腹が空くように軽いものを意識して選んだのですが、ちょっと量が少なすぎる感じはありましたが、普通に美味しく食べることが出来るものというだけでありがたくいただきました。
Our friend and I had Coronation Chicken Naan Sandwich. Chicken wasn't too tough, seasoned properly so it was enjoyable enough to eat. As we were having a big dinner at the hotel this day, I chose a light one but it was very small, I could have had a little more something. Still, these days, I'm happy if it's not horrible.
ランチの後、帰り道にあるお友達のお家でお茶をご馳走になって、ホテルに戻りました。前回お目にかかったのは去年の夏頃、ホストマザーのお葬式という場だったのでゆっくりとお話し出来なかったので、今回、キャッチアップが出来て良かったです。
We stopped at the friend's house for tea on our way back to the hotel. The last time when we met her it was at the funeral of my host mother sometime in the summer last year so we didn't have a chance to chat properly, so it was lovely to be able to catch up properly.
