When it comes to oysters (or seafood), Oyster Boy on Queen West is the place to go; they have been around for over 20 years.
I have never been to Oyster Boy before; I've never tried oysters and thought they were slimey. that is until I had an oyster placed in front of me at a tasting dinner. Better late than never.
Oyster availability changes daily, depending on the season. You'll find oysters from the east coast mainly, with some coming from west coast Canada and in the States.
We opted for Shuckers' Dozen, which is a dozen oysters based on your choice, the shucker's choice or a mix of both. It is an easy way to get a variety. Keep in mind that the oyster pricing is per oyster, and the pricing varies depending on type.
We got:
Black Magic (PEI)
Cascumpec Bay (PEI)
Village Bay (NB)
Fortune Bay (NS)
Effingham (BC)
Shigoku (Washington)
Effingham (BC) was huge!
Yellowfin Tuna Tartare ($24) - Yellowfin tuna tartare, easter radish, candy cane beet relish and fresh basil.
The tuna tartare is a nice, light starter
Lobster Poutine ($28) - lobster bisque, house cut fries, cheese curds and poached lobster meat.
Fennel and Dill Mussels ($19) - mussels steamed with whit wine and roasted fennel, dill butter, paprika oil, chopped fresh herbs and served with sourdough bread.
