JB is now a haven for cafe and dessert crowds with more and more aesthetic cafes popping up all over
We were looking for a late-night dessert place when our relatives brought us to this aesthetic dessert cafe located in a bungalow house. Located along Jalan Beringin where there are many interesting restaurants and cafes, You You Cafe is a modern cafe serving both hot dishes and desserts
The cafe is decorated with retro vibes which almost feels like a visit to an old relative house for the festive. Opened only in March this year, the entire cafe eludes a new and fresh look combined with retro doors and ceiling fans
I ordered the longan sea coconut dessert which was nothing too fanciful but is great for a warm night. The dessert was refreshing, not overly sweet, and cold enough to quench thirst. There were a few pieces of longan, sea coconut with a slice of lemon to provide the tangy flavour to balance out the sweetness
Another simple dessert is the white fungus with red dates and pear which is nourishing for the lungs and good for the skin. The texture was thick and sweet with lots of collagen from the white fungus. As it is not overly sweet, it tasted like a homemade version of the dessert
The next item we had was the chendol which is presented very differently from the ones sold outside. Instead of the ingredients like red beans and corn at the bottom of the bowl, the ingredients were all placed as toppings on top of the ice drizzled with coconut milk and gula melaka. The dessert was light and packed with flavours from each of the ingredients but the flavour from the gula melaka was lacking
Last but not least, was this pistachio cream which is something I have not seen in other dessert shops in Singapore. Just like the traditional peanut, walnut or sesame cream, the concept of making this dessert is the same; grinding pistachio nuts into powder before cooking it into a smooth paste. Unlike the traditional paste we are used to, this version is lighter and more watery in consistency. It was like a sweet cream-based soup which has a nice nutty earthy flavour which was quite addictive. It is also mildly sweet so it is very suitable for the elderly or people who prefer less sweet desserts
Overall, You You is a nice cafe to chill for desserts and drinks as it is pretty quiet and spacious. There is hot food available during meal times as well which I did not get to try since we visited after dinner
