Restoran Yum Me Place in KL

[Non-halal] There's a new spot for good Ipoh Kai Si Hor Fun in KL.

This new stall occupies a spot in Restoran Yum Me Place in Jalan Batai, Damansara Heights.

You'll probably recognise this kopitiam/cha sat as the home of the viral TokPork Nasi Lemak stall.

We used to come here often for the Char Koay Teow. At one time, the quality of the CKT had deteriorated but it had recently returned to its glory days as the owner is now (back at) handling the wok.

Anyway, we digress.

The Ipoh Kai Si Hor Fun (KSHF) stall is relatively new in this kopitiam.

Run by an elderly uncle with a few helpers, the stall offers five options of kai si hor fun priced from RM10 onwards. Combination included noodles with shredded chicken, prawns, chicken thighs and drumsticks.

You can also order a side of prawn wontons and chicken thigh/drumstick in soy sauce.

Ipoh Kai Si Hor Fun at Restoran Yum Me Place

We arrived at Restoran Yum Me Place at 12pm on a Saturday noon and promptly made our order at the stall.

Thankfully, we were able to get a table immediately but a queue soon formed at the restaurant after we were seated.

The Kai Si Hor Fun with Prawns and Shredded Chicken (RM11) did not disappoint.

Presentation wise - it had all the hallmarks of a good KSHF: a milky broth topped with plenty of prawn oil for the beautiful orange colour, succulent prawns, and smooth rice noodle.

So where's why we liked this bowl. They were generous with the prawn oil which gives the bowl plenty of prawn aroma and umami.

This is nicely contrasted by the broth that has an inherent sweetness from chicken stock, prawns and also rock sugar. In the sweetness-to-savouriness scale, we'd say this sits almost in the middle with a good balance of both.

Silky smooth noodles and succulent prawns

The noodles were also silky smooth and rivals some of the best in town.

The prawns were also fresh and succulent, and the shredded chicken did not lose its natural sweetness or flavours.

Bonus content: TokPork Nasi Lemak

We've quite familiar with the viral social media posts featuring the owner of TokPork Nasi Lemak, and figured this was a good time to finally try his signature dish.

Surprisingly, the TokPork Nasi Lemak (RM14.90) was quite decent.

The rice has enough santan aroma, and the sambal has enough of the spicy kick. The accompanying roasted siew yok was quite good as the meat was tender, with melt-in-the-mouth fat and crispy skin.
