We eat a lot of tortillas, warps for lunch, burritos, tacos, fajitas, pizza, and I even have them with chili. They are a very versatile product and good ones taste great. We keep them in the freezer and usually there are a couple of packages of them. They thaw quickly and reheat easily.
The problem with the grocery store tortillas is they don't taste as good as fresh made ones. I have had fresh made to order tortillas in some great mexican restaurants. A fresh made tortilla, served warm is something special. Tortillas are something I have never made for one simple reason, I don't have a tortilla press. Recipe for them is very simple, but you need the press, rolling them by hand is impractical.
When it comes to using a tortilla for wraps, burritos, tacos, fajitas or even just to have with chili I want them warm. My wife thinks I am a little weird alway having to warm my tortilla up before I eat it with anything. Over the years I have always just put them in the microwave for a few seconds. It works well to warm them but I have always thought there had to be a better way. When I have used them for pizza I noticed the taste of the tortilla was better. Tried just warming them up in the oven but it just seemed like a waste of the oven to warm 1 tortilla. After a little bit of experimenting I found, for me, the perfect way.
This is an extremely simple way. Preheat a large frying pan on medium low heat. Wet your hands, take a tortilla and rub your wet hands on both sides. Put it in the frying pan for 15 second and then turn it over for 10 seconds. You can do more and cover with tin foil and keep in a 200 f. oven. Surprisingly it not only warms the tortilla it also slightly changes the taste. They taste more like fresh made tortillas which for me is a good thing.
