Last time I wrote about Bite me Bunz on Colwick Industrial Estate was back in 2022 when I was enjoying a plateful of their excellent Mutton Curry (read more here).
At that time I had said I really wanted to come back for one of their breakfast offerings but until this week for some reason I had failed to do so.
Never mind, we are here now and taking our chances!
BREAKFAST MENU AT BITE ME BUNZ
The breakfast chalkboard was slightly faded but we could still pick out some glorious options. It seemed that we could have anything breakfast wise served up however we wanted!
Breakfast in a French Stick, A sub roll, a cob, a wrap and in a tray were all options and possibilities.
I had really fancied a breakfast but to be honest I had already eaten one earlier, but it was more or less lunchtime so I opted for the small breakfast tray made up of "sausage, bacon, egg, hash brown, beans and toast".
This was priced up at £4.80 which seemed like a bit of a bargain to me. I cheekily asked if I could have mine served on a plate as I planned to eat it here at the cafe and it turned out that wasn't going to be a problem. Excellent stuff!
SMALL BREAKFAST
The breakfast was nicely presented on the plate and much bigger than I expected for a small one! I was glad that I had asked to get it plated up instead of in a box.
The sausage looked really good and nicely browned, the bacon was crisp with most of the fat rendered out, The hash brown was better than many, nice, crisp and crunchy on the outside and fairly decent filling inside, for once I quite liked it.
The beans were cooked well so that the sauce was not too runny. I could have had tomatoes but I had declined as I suspected that they would have been tinned. The toast was well buttered and perfect for mopping up stuff from the plate.
The only downside was the egg which was a bit overcooked, but I know its hard to do a fried egg on the hot plate as opposed to being in a pan so I was accepting of my lot on this day
The highlight of the breakfast was the sausage, it was really solid and meaty, filled with juicy meat and a nice mix of herbs. It seemed to be well above the normal greasy spoon cafe efforts I often get served so I had to enquire where it came from.
It turns out that they get them from Chambers in Arnold which is a fantastic Nottingham based butcher and one well famed for it's sausages. I was quite impressed with such provenance. I would come back again just for the sausage!
BACON, SAUSAGE AND EGG COB
My dining companion planned to go for a smaller option but ended up with a Bacon, Sausage and Egg cob for £4.40 which seemed to be the biggest cob I have seen for a while and was packed out with filling. " 2 sausages, 2 bits of bacon, and a Fried Egg. I reckon they got lucky or maybe they had inadvertently ordered a large one 😎🧐
As noted with my breakfast the sausages shone brightly within this cob and I was quite jealous that they had got two sausages compared the one on my breakfast plate 😢
The egg was a bit raggedy and could perhaps have been better if the yolk was still runny, but in the end it did not detract from the enjoyment of the sandwich.
I think this was really good value as well!
The first time we had visited Bite me Bunz was a trailer with a few seats outside, but now they have built a nice undercover seated area around the trailer so it looks and feels like a proper cafe.
It is a bit cosy as the trellis tables are very close together, but of you get there first you can grab the bench nearest to the counter and get a bit more room. That is what I did anyway 😎
Bite me Buns is a friendly little spot and I enjoyed listening in to the banter from the traders and the regulars who were frequenting the place. I do like it when you see a van park up and a group of lads piling out asking for the usual, it makes you see that a place has something about it
I thoroughly enjoyed my breakfast and I vow to return to get a bigger one, mostly so I can enjoy a lot more of those excellent sausages, but also because I can be a little greedy so and so on occasion
To find Cafe Bite Me Bunz, head into the estate and as you get to the point where Mile End Rd joins Rd No 2 you will see the signs into the yard. I have tried to get the place added to Google Maps but no joy as of yet
