It was mostly cloudy with the sun coming out now and again, but so windy that it felt cold in summer clothes. We had a storm the other night so many of our tall large dahlia stems broke, which is very sad, and petunias aren't looking great having been blown so much.
Today's dinner was Okonomi-yaki. As always, we had Issen-yaki first, then shared a huge Okonomi-yaki.
Our 'Issen-yaki' isn't what most people think of Issen-yaki, it's what we used to have in our favourite okonomi-yaki restaurant we used to go to when we were living in Kobe. It's not as if I have the recipe so I just make it trying too guess how it used to be made. I wake Okonomi-yaki batter a little thinner, add a little soy sauce, spread it like crepe. Then put some tenkasu (deep-fried batter), green onion and pickled red ginger. When one side is nicely brown, I flip it and push it down so the side you put tenkasu gets nice and crispy. It's yummy with beer.
Then I cook 1 huge Okonomi-yaki rather than 2 smaller ones as it's quicker, then share.
