Mokihana Coffee Co. | A Charming Bus Café in Kapa'a, Kauai
Nestled in the charming town of Kapa'a on the picturesque island of Kauai, Mokihana Coffee Co. stands as a testament to the island's spirit of innovation and community. I had the opportunity to visit this coffee shop not once, not twice, but three times while on our honeymoon. We like to visit different coffee shops whenever we travel but sometimes, we find a favorite. This is one of those favorites!
The Bus That Became a Coffee Haven
One of the first things you'll notice about Mokihana Coffee Co. is its distinctive coffee shop, which is housed in a lovingly remodeled vintage bus. This whimsical transformation sets Mokihana apart from your typical café and adds a layer of nostalgic charm. The bus, painted in vibrant colors, is more than just a striking visual; it serves as the heart of the operation where you'll place your order.
As you approach the bus, you'll be greeted by the friendly baristas who are always ready to brighten your day with a warm smile and a perfectly crafted coffee. Their enthusiasm for coffee is matched only by their dedication to making your visit enjoyable, embodying the welcoming spirit that defines Mokihana Coffee Co. They take their craft very seriously, but we also got the chance to talk to them during slower periods. They also have a hoot making social media content!
The Holy Cacao Latte: A Divine Brew
One of the standout offerings on Mokihana's menu is their Holy Cacao Latte. This indulgent drink is a chocolate lover's dream, blending rich espresso with creamy milk and a decadent cacao infusion. It's a harmonious balance of sweet and robust flavors, making it the perfect treat for any time of day. Whether you're starting your morning or taking a midday break, the Holy Cacao Latte offers a comforting embrace with every sip. The smooth texture and rich chocolate notes provide a luxurious experience that sets Mokihana apart from other coffee spots. Of the three times we went there, I got the Holy Cacao Latte all three times. It's honestly that good!

But the experience doesn't end there. On the other side of the bus, Mokihana has created a charming covered seating area where you can relax and unwind. This shaded space is furnished with comfortable seating, making it an excellent place to linger with your coffee. Whether you're catching up with friends or just taking a moment for yourself, the covered area provides a cozy refuge that enhances your visit.
A Weekly Baked Good Delight
Adding to the allure of Mokihana Coffee Co. is their rotating selection of baked goods which change by the week. Each time you visit, you'll find a new treat to pair with your coffee, making every visit a new adventure. From fresh banana bread, cinnamon rolls, blueberry muffins and chocolate chip muffins, the baked goods are always fresh and tantalizing. When I visited, I had the opportunity to try their cinnamon rolls, baked in a muffin tin. It was fantastic, and I have no doubt the rest of their baked goods are delicious as well. This rotating menu adds an element of surprise and delight, ensuring that there's always something new and exciting to look forward to.
A Community Hub with a Personal Touch
What truly sets Mokihana Coffee Co. apart is the genuine warmth of the baristas. Their friendliness and passion for coffee make every visit feel like coming home. They are all eager to share their knowledge and recommendations, ensuring that each customer leaves with a smile. When I visited, I got to talk with Clara, and she was a joy! She gave me and my wife some coffee recommendations and was the one who baked those sweet cinnamon rolls. She was just exceptional! I also got to talk to another barista (shown below) who's name is escaping me. We saw her for her last day there and she asked about photography since she saw my camera. I showed her some of the shots I had taken and she showed me some of hers. I can't think of another coffee shop experience quite like this one, but perhaps that's the aloha spirit! This personal touch, combined with the shop's unique atmosphere and exceptional coffee, makes Mokihana Coffee Co. more than just a coffee stop—it's a beloved community hub.
