Beware; for I am fearless, and therefore powerful

Author: Mary Shelley

Ambitious, knowledge-hungry student Victor Frankenstein lights upon the secret of breathing life into inanimate objects. After gathering a collection of body parts, he embarks on a macabre construction exercise, endowing the fruits of his labours with the life force. Having succeeded in his aim, Frankenstein recoils in horror at the "demoniacal corpse" he has created. He abandons the monster, who inspires fear in those he meets. Craving acceptance and affection but facing unrelenting rejection, the monster wreaks his revenge on his creator, who finds that playing God is a dangerous game; that with power comes responsibility.

Review:

Frankenstein is the story of Victor Frankenstein who is a scientist and likes to experiment things. His liking ends up on making a big monster who fails to come up to his expectations. Th book starts with a narration from Captain Wilton who writes a letter to his sister of his well being and about a stranger (Frankenstein) whom he accidently meets in the ship. Frankenstein seems to be heavily wounded on their encounter. Captain Walton's narration only fills the first and last few pages of the book. The remaining chapters are of Victor Frankenstein's childhood and how his craving to science ruined his life.

The story surrounds Frankenstein and the monster he created. The novel mainly lights upon every human's thoughtlessness and their mistakes while taking quick decisions in fear or hunger for knowledge and fame. The characters as Henry Cleveral and Elizabeth Lavenza would entertain you in the story and would remind you of the characters in Jane Austen's works. The book is easy to read with great descriptions and the book would allow you to see the world through a monster or an animal's eye. The book would display that even a good monster who knows nothing of the world or any brutalities, changes itself after a human's conduct towards them. The book would teach the readers to double check their thoughts before stepping into any problems or new ventures.
