W's birthday today.
As per tradition, I made miyeok guk (seaweed soup) for dinner.
Technically, the tradition is to eat the soup for breakfast, but she'd spent the night with her mother in a hotel and got back after lunch.
To beef it up, in the absence of actual beef, I added abalone (jeonbok).
Also rice cakes (ddeok).
Curiously, eating rice cakes on New Year's day symbolizes aging another year (see most recently 13.027 Ddeok Mandu Guk), but not on birthdays.

Surprisingly, though GMTD has featured ddeok guk many times as the New Year's dish, this is the first post to feature miyeok guk in a birthday context (see for comparison 12.357 Je Je's Jjajang Myeon).
