New dessert menu at Sing Swee Kee

Heads up, if you love traditional snacks: popular chicken rice restaurant Sing Swee Kee is rolling out a new dessert menu that takes a nod to their Hainanese roots. Available from 1 April 2022, exclusively at their Seah Street outlet, the new menu spotlights the lesser-seen Hainaese kueh yibua, alongside trendy desserts such as mango sago and coconut shake.

Yibua, or 意粑, is a classic Hainanese steamed dumpling typically given out during weddings and one-month celebrations. Sing Swee Kee's rendition of this labour intensive delicacy is based on a family recipe that's handed down over generations.

The mini-sized kueh are available in two flavours: Traditional and Ginger-Free. The former sees chewy mochi skin encasing a rich filling of gula melaka, shredded coconut, ground peanuts, and white sesame, spiked with ginger. If you're not a fan of the gingery notes, get the second option, which comes with a purple sweet potato-infused skin instead.

For a trendy twist to their dessert menu, the Sing Swee Kee team has also concocted a one of a kind Hainan Kueh Ice Cream Sundae featuring creamy coconut ice cream topped with crunchy peanuts and sesame as well as cubes of chewy fried mochi. Finally the Instagram-worthy confection, basically a deconstructed Hainan Kueh is drizzled with gula melaka.

There's also other desserts like coconut mango sago, coconut shake and sago pudding with gula melaka. Look out for these new offerings in Sing Swee Kee's updated menu at its Seah Street outlet (34/35 Seah Street S188391) from 1st April 2022!
