It's here to stay.
I think about this topic a lot, so let me explain.
For someone who works part-time in a supermarket on the weekends for a few extra bucks to supplement teaching every little bit helps, I cannot help but observe how grocery delivery company workers operate and grow their customer bases.
It would be more of a surprise to see grocery delivery end for good than grow. That's because thousands of consumers signed up to order groceries online and have never looked back. Despite rising grocery prices, if it's a service that is affordable and gives back time and convenience then it works.
I perceive that there are customers who don't want to be completely tethered to their service of grocery delivery and want to go to the supermarket because they have time, or the weather is nice, or whatever reason, it should be an option and this is where grocery delivery services can grow. "If you don't feel like grocery shopping today, all good. We got you."
Grocery shopping and grocery delivery are personal things for any consumer. The quest to find the right balance is key for many consumers because they like choices and convenience, which is why I think grocery delivery is here to stay and will take time to make it profitable where margins are small, but expectations and demand are growing.
