昨日も書きましたが、この週末はエリザベス女王のプラチナム・ジュブリーのお祝いの週末になっていて、昨日と今日は祝日になっており、イギリス中でストリートパーティーが開かれていることと思います。わたしたちはストリートパーティーではないのですが、お隣のご夫婦がお庭で持ち寄りパーティーに伺いました。
As I wrote yesterday, yesterday and today are public holidays in the UK to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jublee and I guess there have been and there will be a lot of street parties held all over the UK. Ours was not street party but our next door neighbour held a party at their garden - it was a pot luck party.
わたしたちが住むところはクロースと言って道路から小道に入ってぐるっと円を描いて行き止まりになっていて、７軒の家が立っています。そのうち６軒はわたしたちと同じく退職した夫婦が住んでいて、１軒はお若いご夫婦とまだ小さなお子さんお２人が住んでいるので、その７軒全員と、パーティーを開いてくださった方の息子さんお２人、奥さん、お孫さん４人、もう１軒のご夫婦の息子さんとお孫さん、全員で２０名を越す人数の集まりでした。
Where we live is a close, when you turn into a narrow pass from the main street the pass goes around shaping sort of a circule and there are 7 houses around the green in the middle. 6 out of 7 are occupied by people retired like us and 1 is occupied by a young family with 2 small children. The host's 2 sons and their families, the son and his family of another couple also joined us so there were more than 20 adults plus some children.
持ち寄りパーティーなので何かお持ちしなくてはいけないわけですが、ちょっと珍しくてあまり作ってくる人がいなさそう、ということと、作り慣れているものの方が失敗する確率が低いこと、早めに作っても大きく味が変わらないということで、クスクスサラダとタイビーフサラダをお持ちしました。２０人分もの量を作るのは久しぶりで、結構切る作業が多いので思っていたより時間がかかり、バタバタしました。写真を撮る余裕もなくお持ちして、パーティの間も親しくない方達の中で写真は撮りにくいので、最後のケーキと、持ち寄ったあれこれが乗ったテーブル（ほとんど食べてしまった状態でしたが）だけ撮りました。
As it is a pot luck party, I needed to take something. After thinking a while, I decided to take couscous salad and Thai beef salad because they are a little unusual so not as likely that other people would bring them, I'm used to making them so not too likely to make a big mistake and they can stay good for a while after making them. It's been a long time since I made any food for such a large number of people and there was a lot of chopping involved so it took longer than I expected - I was so rushed that I forgot to take photos of them. I also didn't take many photos at the party because I feel awkward when I'm with people I don't know very much. I took one photo of the tablefull of foods after everyone took theirs and a couple of photos of a cake and cupcakes.
左の上のガラスの中に入っているのがクスクスサラダ、左の手前のちょこっとだけ写っているのがタイビーフサラダ。どちらも喜んでいただけて、特にタイビーフサラダは好評でレシピも聞かれました。みなさんがお持ちくださったものも、どれもとても美味しかったです！
The one in the glass bowl on the top left is my couscous, the one on the bottom left is my Thai beef salad. I'm happy to say that people seem to have liked them, specially Thai beef Salad and they asked me of the recipe. Everything other people brought was delicious, too.

わたしたちが引っ越して来たのが２０１９年の１１月で、翌年の１月にお隣のお隣がご近所パーティーを開いてくださったのでほとんどの方達と顔合わせはしていましたが、バタバタしているうちに３月末にロックダウンになり、その後長い間ほとんど人と会うことは出来なかったので、ロックダウン以来の初めてのご近所パーティーでした。小さなお子さんがおられるご家族は２０２０年の１１月に引っ越してこられたのですが、なかなかお目にかかる機会がないままだったので、きちんとお目にかかれお話出来て良かったですし、他の皆さんとも本当に久しぶりにお話をする機会が持てて良かったです。
We moved here in November 2019 and one of the neighbours held a party for us to see the neighbours in January 2020. We were very busy with unpacking and renovation of the house for a while then lockdown happend at the end of March. Naturally we weren't able to see anybody for a long time, then when we were allowed to see people we were seeing our families and friends so we hadn't had any opportunity to see our neighbours other than a couple of them, and this was the first neighbourhood party since November 2019. It was great to see them and talked to them properly rather than just waving to each other and it was great to see one family, who moved in November 2020 as I hadn't had a chance to meet them.
人見知りなのでこういう機会は苦手なのですが、みなさん気さくでフレンドリーで、楽しい数時間を過ごすことが出来ました。そして、何よりも、持ち寄りのお料理の失敗がなくて良かったです！
I'm really not good at meeting new people, specially when it's a large group, but everyone was friendly and lovely and we both enjoyed meeting them. I am also so relieved that my dishes came out OK.
