Went to Chalong for lunch as they have really great reviews on Google.
It is located very near the Raffles Place MRT station so I decided to try them out. Their opening hours are only during lunch and dinner times but I hate crowds so I decided to go closer towards the end of lunchtime.
They only have a small shop space, mainly catering to people who would get takeaway and go. There are only about 5-6 seats available at the side.
As I'd gone nearing the closing time when they were cleaning up, they were out of beef and only had pork/chicken left.
I got the pork jowl with garlic rice to try. They use plastic cutlery and the food was served on a paper mache like type of plate.
The pork jowl was very nicely flavoured and slightly charred. It was aromatic and tender enough, considering the meat was pretty lean. The deep fried crispy minced garlic sprinkled on the plate of rice was nice and added a different texture to the dish.
The garlic rice was a bit disappointing imo. It was way too soggy and kind of mushy. The taste was also not great and overly salty. I would never go for their garlic rice again.
The staff there were pretty friendly and helpful so it was good. They do not sell drinks.
I'd like to try the beef bowl when possible next time and pair it with their plain rice. Will update again if I do get to try this.
