When I started to reread the Septimus Heap series, I started revollecting some of the main storylines. But sometimes, I get them mixed up.
Like this book, for instance. I recalled some scenes that I thought was part of Syren but was actually part of Queste. And there were some scenes that I thought were part of Syren but it turns out to be part of Darke.
Anyway, that's what happened when you haven't read the series in a long time. You end up getting the scenes and storylines mixed up.
Anyway, Syren is a book that foreshadowed a lot of things. The main thing it foreshadowed was the formation of a powerful alliance between three powerful people. It foreshadowed Septimus as a powerful wizard, Jenna as the future Queen and Beetle as a most knowledgeable and efficient Scribe. The adventure that these three had on the Syren's island was one for the books. It explored a great deal of ancient Magyk and somehow managed to connect Queste with Syren.
There were times when the book became boring, especially since it had a lot of narratives about the scenery. I get why the author paid a lot of attention to the scenery. Everything hinges on that. And you have to capture the reader's interest to make them read the entire narrative. But it can get a little bit boring especially when you're looking for action. But reading it all the way through is worth it.
The ending was bittersweet, and left some questions hanging. It triggered the right amount of curiousity to make you start the next book at once.
