When I first heard about this brand Machi Machi, it was because of the Singer Jay Chou, as social media platforms start floating posts about Machi Machi being his favourite bubble tea brand. There were also rumours that he owned the brand as he was always seen with drinks from the brand
Due to the unconfirmed link with Jay Chou, there was a mad rush to visit the Machi Machi store to try their drinks or hopefuls try their luck in bumping into the star. When the 2 outlets opened in Singapore, the same mad rush was seen but I decided not to join them since bubble tea is not worth the crazy queues.
It was by pure coincidence that I passed this Machi Machi shop at Lot 10 during my KL trip and it was relatively empty so I decided to get a few of their hot favourites back to the hotel
I was attracted to the colourful menu as I like fresh fruit bubble tea compared to pure sugar milk tea. In the end, I ordered a bottled Grapefruit Green Tea Slush with Fruit Jelly, fresh fruits four season spring tea and grapefruit mango cream slush
The small corner shop is decorated in a simple minimalistic style with small corners for customers to sit and take pictures while waiting for their drinks. Customers can choose to have their drinks in the shop but there are limited seats so most of the customers buy takeaways
It took a while for the drinks to be prepared so there were only 2 staff on duty and there was an influx of orders just when I was putting in our orders. The drinks were really very pretty, especially the one in the bottle. The fresh fruit tea was very refreshing with many pieces of fruit stuffed into the cup which can be eaten even after you finish the tea. There are pineapple, apple, orange and other fruits and the citrus flavours balanced with the tea well giving it a natural sweetness as I asked for 0% sugar. The green tea slush and mango cream slush reminded me vaguely of the Hey Tea mango drinks as it was very rich and creamy and it was really more like a fruit smoothie which I liked very much
Overall, I like Machi Machi as much as I like the drinks from Hey Tea and they both have quality drinks made with fresh ingredients. It is a pity that the Machi Machi branches in Singapore don't seem to carry the same drinks I ordered in KL and I am not sure if it was a seasonal drink but if I have the chance, I will definitely drink their drinks again
