The RoundHouse Bar & Kitchen has finally re-opened around a year after it closed last summer. It has been a big miss on our Friday Night beer bimbles as we had it firmly pencilled in on our regular pub crawl up from the Canal Side past the Castle
Back then it was very much know for it's food and was more of a restaurant really with a bit of drinking space in and around the place. I read that now it has reopened with a focus on being more of bar serving food
We popped in to check out the beer situation and invariably as these things go ended up eating a bit of pub grub as well
WHATS ON TAP?
First impressions were good with three cracking looking pumps on the bar featuring two of our favourite local Castle Rock session beers; Harvest Pale and Our House alongside the ever reliable Timothy Taylors Landlord.
Chatting to the chap behind the bar I was happy to hear that they were looking to source as much beer from our excellent local breweries as possible
BURGER MENU
I am a simple man with simple tastes so it is no surprise that I found myself looking at the BURGERS & DOGS section of the menu.
There was only one that I liked the sound of and that was the Signature Bacon Cheeseburger which sounded like a proper burger with nothing weird added to it.
I dismissed the Hickory BBQ , Chipotle Chicken, and Spinach Falafel without any thoughts.
BURGER AND FRIES
The Signature Bacon Cheeseburger is described as a "Quarter pound beef steak patty with Monterrey Jack cheese, crispy bacon on our Tennessee bun" it came with chips for £11 which sounds like good value in today's market
The chips were really fries and they did the job of filling the plate once tipped out from the tin that they arrived in. I needed ketchup and vinegar to make the interesting but that is nothing unusual in the world of the pub fry
BACON CHEESE BURGER
I thought that this was a pretty tasty pub burger, slight downside was that the actual burger patty was a bit too thin and solid, and the cheese needed to be melted properly so that it drapes across the patty like a comfort blanket
On the plus side the actual taste of the burger patty was decent and the bacon was crisp and plentiful. It was a well constructed burger that you can pick up with one hand for chowing and a decent size for the money
Until today I had not heard of a Tennessee Bun but apparently it is a thing a grillhouse bun topped with a sprinkle of poppy and golden linseed. It has a light airy crust and a bit of a malty taste. I quite like it it was much better than the brioche ones that seem to be everywhere at the moment
PINT OF PALE
While I did eat that burger primarily to fill me up and thus doing the job that I was hoping it would do I was really just focussed on supping several pints of excellent beer from the Castle Rock Brewery

The Roundhouse Bar & Kitchen is located at Royal Standard House, Standard Hill, Nottingham NG1 6FX just a few hundred yards up the hill from the Castle in the old Jubilee wing of the Nottingham General Hospital
It is a lovely building and I like it better as a pub than as a restaurant maybe because I just happen to like the beers that they had on when we have visited 😎🤣

MENUS
There were other options on the burger including the now ubiquitous offerings of random small plates and lite bites along side some pub classics such as Fish and Chips but I think really the focus is on the beer.
BATTERED HADDOCK & CHIPS
My mate had the Fish and Chips and really he lost the battle of who got the best option quite easily. Sometimes he gets a better plate and I sulk for a while wondering how I can make a decent blog post out of what I ate, happily today I won as I was happy to honestly say that I enjoyed my burger.
