Sunday Roast at the Boathouse – Beef at the Beefeater

The Boathouse Beefeater near to Castle Marina is a Beefeater restaurant serving the locals and the people staying in the nearby hotels. I'll be honest it would not be my first choice for Sunday Lunch but we had a voucher someone gave us so we figured we might as well give them a go

We fancied some Sunday Lunch and as that seems to be getting more and more expensive these days we wondered if the Beefeater was going to be a good options for a cheaper eat.

ROAST DINNER MENU

The menu sounded alright, "Roast with the Most" could have come straight from a Dating show with people eating Sunday Lunches but it wasn't meant that way.

I picked out the Roast Sirloin of Beef described as '30-day-aged from UK and Irish farms: Melt-in-your-mouth tenderness. Cooked medium' for £13.99. There was an option to upgrade the roast for £1.99 and add an extra slice of beef. So we both did that since we had a discount voucher why not splash the cash lol

The menu listed out the sides as being 'crispy roast potatoes, golden honey-glazed parsnips, Yorkshire pudding, stuffing. Tenderstem broccoli, garden peas, savoy cabbage, carrots and our rich signature red wine gravy' which all sounded rather tasty on paper at least.

ROAST BEEF LUNCH

First thoughts were about how grey and sad the meat looked but I ploughed on cutting a chunk to try. I was happy that the slices were big and thick and despite the unappetising appearance they were quite tasty and surprisingly juicy. First visual impressions were not as telling as the reality.

Vegetable wise it was just like a classic carvery nothing to write home about or to moan too much about. It was big generous portions the sort that your Gran would serve up to you and expect you to eat with gratitude whatever it look like.

I liked the tenderstem broccoli and the honey glazed parsnips. I am not keen on carrots cut in round slices but they were cooked well with a little bite left in them and not mushy as I feared.

The garden peas out of a bag just rolled around the plate getting in the way, I always find them difficult to spoon up when served in just vast quantities.

Highlights were the big portion of roast spuds and the reasonable well cooked and risen Yorkshire together with the rich thick gravy. Again all very filling and generously laden onto the plate.

The roast beef pictured on the menu looked a lot better than the grey slabs that we were given which was a shame as the advertised fare looked pretty good.

When we paid the order apparently said well done which we didn't ask for and when questioned were told that by the time we ate it would have been out the oven for a while so it would be well done and not pink. No comment really. I had walked away by that point and couldn't be arsed to say that menu says 'cooked medium'.

I knew it wasn't going to be like dining at the Ritz so I hadn't really got any complaints it was filling and cheap and that was good enough for me on this occasion.

Would we come back? well since we keep getting emailed about discounted meals having signed up to their mailing list it is possible. On their website they talk about unlimited breakfast for £9.99 and I do like a challenge 🤣🤣

The Boathouse Beefeater is located at Castle Marina Park, Castle Bridge Road, Nottingham NG7 1GX and you can check out menus etc for the Beefeater Chain on their website
