今日はお昼過ぎにWi-Fiが繋がらなくなってしまいました。我が家だけではなく、契約しているBTの問題だったので復旧するまで待つしかなく、夜の７時ごろに復旧しますと連絡がありました。最悪７時ということできっともっと早く復旧するだろうとは思いながらかなり不安でしたが、幸い１時間くらいで復旧しました。この辺りは電波が悪くてWi-Fiがないとインターネットがあまり出来ません。だいたい、わたしはほぼ一日中と言って良いくらいコンピューターの前に座ってインターネットを使っているので、Wi-Fiが切れてしまうと本当に困ります。
We lost wi-fi after lunch time today and found out it wasn't just us but BT (provider) around here had trouble. We had a message saying it'll come back around 7:00pm! We thought that they say 7:00pm but that must be the latest possible time they expect to sort the problem, it'll probably come back much earlier and fortunately it did come back in about an hour. The phone signal around here is so bad that without wi-fi the internet is very slow and sometimes almost non-existance. I really hate it when this happens because I'm often in front of my PC using wifi most of the day.
さて、いよいよ、大晦日になりました。引き続き、暗いくらいイギリスです。今日は一時期少し陽がさしてはいましたが、概ね暗く、最高気温１０度の寒い１日でした。寒いと言っても最低気温と最高気温があまり変わらず、すごく寒くなるわけではないのですが、太陽が輝いていないので寒く感じます。
It is New Year's Eve today, it's been very dark and wet. There was a short time when the sun came out but it looked grey most of the day and felt cold. The lowest temperature isn't that bad but the highest was around 10C and without the sun it did feel cold.
今日はお隣のご夫婦にディナーにお招きいただいていましたが、数日前に「風邪をひいてしまったので申し訳ないけど、ごめんなさい、キャンセルさせてください」とご連絡がありましたので、ぽっかり予定が空きました。とはいえ、元々、大晦日は特に何もすることはあまりなく、大抵はビーフ・ブルギニヨンか何かしらビーフシチュー系のものを作ってディナーにいただいて、夜中の１２時になったらシャンパンで乾杯して寝ちゃう、という過ごし方をするので予定が空いても特に問題ありません。
Our next door neighbour had invited us to a dinner this evening but as they came down with a cold or a flu they cancelled it a few days ago. We didn't mind not having anything on today, we usually spend New Year's Even quietly just two of us, often have some kind of beef stew for dinner, wait until midnight, do a cheers with a small glass of Champagne, the go to bed.
ただ、今年はまだクリスマスディナーを家でしていなかったので、今日することにしました。クリスマス後過ごしたホテルで一応クリスマスディナーはいただいていますが、やはり、家で食べるのが一番美味しいので時期をずらしてしています。イギリスに来るまではターキーを焼いてランチタイムにいただいていましたが、イギリスに来てからはクリスマスはホテルで過ごしていて、家でのクリスマスディナーはターキーの胸肉に詰め物をして巻いたものを買って、夜にいただいています。
It wasn't beef stew today, though. We had a Christmas dinner. We did have one at Gidleigh Park Hotel but it's never as good as when you cook at home even at a Michelin Star restaurant. In the past (since we moved to England) we've been having Christmas dinner around 28th or 29th, I think, but we didn't feel like having a big dinner like this when we had the drink party scheduled on the 29th, so we were thinking of doing it in the new year. As we had no plan for today, we decided to cook it today instead. We used to cook a large turkey for Christmas but since we moved to England we've been buying rolled and staffed turkey breast, from M&S until last year and from Waitrose this year. I personally liked the one from Waitrose, another good thing about the one from Waitrose is it's smaller than M&S.
詰め物をしたターキー、ローストパースニップ、ローストポテト、チポラタソーセージのベーコン巻き、芽キャベツの塩茹で。乗り切らなかったので、スタッフィングは別のボールにいれました。
Stuffed turkey breast, roast pasnips, roast potatoes, chipolata sausage wrapped with bacon, boiled Brussels sprouts. I put stuffing in a bowl as this plate got too full.
スタッフィングは、わたしはアメリカ式のが好みなのでアメリカ式に作ります。パンの角切り、玉ねぎ、セロリ（今日は切らしていて省略）、りんご、ソーセージの中身、セージ、ピーカンナッツが入っています。
As for stuffing I prefer American style to English so I make American style - bread, onion, celery (we didn't have any this year), apple, sausage meat, sage, pecan nuts.

クラッカーの中には、シルバーの色のトナカイのナプキンリングが１つずつ入っていました。
There was a little silver-coloured reindeer napkin ring in each cracker.
珍しく（これまでで初めて）、夫がメインを食べすぎてクリスマス部ディングは明日にするとのことで、ミンスパイとアイスクリームをデザートにいただきました。
My husband said he had too much of the main, he would leave the Christmas pudding until tomorrow - for the first time ever. We had a mince pie and ice cream.
