NYC Foodie Friday: January 2024

Lyssy In The City

February 2

Hi friends, welcome back to another edition of my monthly series showcasing all my delicious eats during the month. As you know, one of my favorite parts of living in NYC is the abundance of incredible food, and I've been on a mission to try all the best places and share my finds along the way. Disclaimer: these posts will cause hunger đꙂ If you want to stay up to date on all my foodie finds, you can follow my food Instagram here. I somehow haven't posted a roundup since October so this will include highlights from November, December, and January! We haven't gone out much lately so it's not as jam packed as I would've thought.

As usual, I went to Dominique Ansel to grab November's Cronut flavor of Butterscotch & Rice Pudding Ganache. I had pretty high expectations for this one but the butterscotch wasn't as strong of a flavor as I would have preferred. It was still delicious though.

December's Cronut flavor was Malt & Caramel, filled with creamy malt ganache and salted caramel ganache. As I'm writing this about 6 weeks later, I have no memory of the taste so it must've been not so great. My friend and I are Cronut connoisseurs and I went back through my texts and had written "I couldn't taste any flavor. The Cronuts are really letting me down lately" so I suppose my memory is correct!

The first Cronut of 2024 is Cappuccino & Maple - Filled with La Colombe cappuccino ganache and creamy maple ganache. I loved this one! The cappuccino flavor is nice, not too overwhelming if you aren't a coffee fan, and the maple ganache leaves the perfect sweet, creamy after taste.

My ordering so far of most to least favorite: Salted Caramel Pretzel, Cherry Jam & Cappuccino Ganache, Cappuccino & Maple, Peach & Cornbread Ganache, Stracciatella & Salted Milk, Lychee Ganache & Mascarpone Ganache, Pumpkin Pie & Brown Sugar Ganache, Blueberry & Sweet Corn, Ube Ganache & Thai Coconut Ganache, Strawberry & Olive Oil, Lemon Curd & Graham Cracker Ganache , Blackberry Jam & Coconut Ganache, Early Grey & Okinawa black Sugar, Mango Jam & Milk Chocolate Ganache, Strawberry Poppyseed & Buttermilk, Raspberry & Pistachio, Honey Peach Jam & Graham Cracker Ganache, Almond and Fig, Butterscotch & Rice Pudding, Malt & Caramel, Apple & Rhubarb,  Matcha & Coconut, Passionfruit & Vanilla, Peanut Butter & Banana, Caramel Flan & Orange Marmalade, Pineapple & Oolong, Green Apple Butterscotch, and Black Truffle & Caramel Popcorn Cronut.

We made it to one of the spots on my 2024 Bucket List, L'Industrie Pizza to check out what some people think of as the best pizza in NYC. I can't say if it's the best, but it was pretty amazing and we'd definitely go back to try more slices. The original location is in Williamsburg, but we checked out the relatively new location in the West Village. We tried the Burrata, Spicy Salami, and Pepperoni & Ricotta. The crust has a nice crunch to it and they use incredibly fresh and high quality ingredients.

While my mom and sisters were in town they requested Greek food so we went to Souvlaki GR for some spicy feta, gyros, and addicting French fries. This spot is relatively causal and the inside is decorated so well you'd think you're in Greece!

We also grabbed some bagels from Liberty Bagels, I had to get the Christmas one of course.

Places I was invited to:

Sotto 13 is a cozy and delicious Italian restaurant in the West Village. We especially loved their take on Osso Buco that was made with a flavorful braised pork shank. I always love a wood fired pizza and you can't not order pasta at an Italian restaurant. We loved our meal and ordered the Arancini, Meatballs, Spicy Sausage Wood-Fired Pizza, Veal Ragu, Osso Buco, and Crème Brûlée.

I returned to Little Rebel to check out their brunch with Jon and it did not disappoint! This restaurant used to be a Michigan bar called Professor Thom's that Jon used to frequent after graduating college. Now he's back as a settled and married man, funny how life works out. We started off with some loaded Breakfast Nachos before getting some sweet and savory entrees. Their hanger steak in the Steak & Eggs is my favorite but I also loved the French Toast and Fried Chicken with hot honey, candied bacon, and fried jalapeños.

Blackseed Bagels collaborated with Campo Grande, a high-quality Spanish meat delivery company, for their January Bagel. The bagel was a Chorizo Egg Bagel Sandwich featuring premium Campo Grande Iberico chorizo on your choice of bagel. I went with an everything bagel and it was such a rich, delicious flavor combination!

Jon and I feasted at Rib No. 7, a Koreatown spot specializing in Oodae Gilbea, a bone-in meat cut from the sixth to eight ribs of beef. These are the most flavorful and tender parts of ribs and they use a special marinade to make it even more delicious. You can really taste the difference in quality of meat they use. We started off with the Seafood Kimchi Jeon and thought the Prince's Feast was perfect for two people. It comes with plenty of sides, Dressed Up Oodae Gilbi, Samgyupsal (pork belly), and Hand Rubbed Marinated Beef Rib.

What caught your eye this time?
