Devotional: Asking "Why?" in the Storms of Life
Dear friend,
Life, with all its twists and turns, often feels like being in the middle of a storm, doesn't it? Sometimes, it's as if everything is spinning out of control, and we find ourselves asking, "Why?" Why do things happen the way they do? Why does the wind of life blow us in directions we didn't choose or want?
It's okay to ask these questions. The Bible tells us about many people who asked "Why?" in their own ways. David, in the Psalms, often cried out to God, asking why he was facing his troubles. One such instance is in Psalm 22:1, where David says, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me, so far from my cries of anguish?" Yet, David also knew that God was with him, even in his darkest moments.
You might wonder, if God holds the whole world in His hands and is always present, does He care about me personally? Does He see my fear and feel my pain? The answer is a resounding yes. Jesus said in Matthew 10:29-31, "Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father's care. And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don't be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows." This means that God is intimately aware of everything about you and cares deeply for you.
Feeling alone, especially in moments of fear and despair, is something even the strongest believers have felt. Yet, the promise of God is that He is with us always. Deuteronomy 31:6 reminds us, "Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you." Even when you can't feel Him, God is right there with you.
So, how can you overcome these feelings of hopelessness and despair? Remember, God invites us to bring all our worries and fears to Him. 1 Peter 5:7 says, "Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you." Talk to God about how you're feeling. You don't need fancy words; just speak from your heart.
Also, surround yourself with friends and family who can remind you of God's love and care. Sometimes, God uses people to show us He's near and that we're not alone.
Lastly, remember, it's okay to not have all the answers. Part of faith is trusting God even when we don't understand why things happen. Isaiah 55:8-9 tells us, "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways," declares the Lord. "As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts."
Dear friend, even in the eye of the storm, you are not alone. God is with you, carrying you, comforting you, loving you more than you can imagine. It's okay to ask "Why?" But also remember to trust in His unending love for you.
With love and prayers.
