Did you know that Pyeongtaek City offers Parking Ticket Alerts via text message for some parking violations? If you register for the Parking Ticket Alerts, you will get a text message (in Korean) from the Pyeongtaek Parking Authority saying something to the effect of, "Move your care in the next (number of minutes) to avoid a ticket." Keep reading to learn more.
Notifications for Certain Infractions
The Parking Ticket Alerts occur for certain types of parking issues such as parking on sidewalks, or intersections.
Register on the Pyeongtaek City Government Website
Registration for Parking Alerts is handled online through the Pyeongtaek City Hall website. The link for registering for Parking Ticket Alerts may change over time. The city may change the government websites after elections or a change in city budgeting. As of 2024, you can register via the following link: https://www.pyeongtaek.go.kr/parkingsms/application/join.do
Only The Car Owner Can Register
Please note that only the owner of the car can receive parking alerts. Therefore, the phone number you use to register for alerts must be the same phone number used to register the car. You can learn more about Korea's resident identity verification system here.
Getting Registered For Alerts
It's quick and easy to register for alerts if your name and information match throughout Korea's identity registration system. However, if you don't speak Korean it might take a little while to translate and read each step so give yourself some time. When we completed the process it went like this:
Step 1: Agree to Service
You will need to agree to the terms of service. Agree by clicking 동의합니. Once you have accepted all of the terms you will be moved to the next step.
The online form on the Pyeongtaek City Government website will ask you for 3 things:
- license plate number
- owner's name as written to match their FRC
- Korean smartphone number

Step 3: Verify Your Identity
Once you submit the above form you may be asked for a verification number. Remember that all of this will occur with Korean prompts. When we did it, we took screenshots and translated them with Papago to understand each step of the process.
Congratulations, once you complete this process you will get alerts to move your vehicle if it's illegally parked near many CCTV cameras.
