A popular coffee chain in East Malaysia, The Coffee Code chose to join the school of cafes in Tanjung Pagar area by opening their first Singapore outlet
With a relaxed and layback entrance which resembles a spa with a pebble stone walkway, the cafe eludes a very relaxed and calming atmosphere from the entrance. I stepped into the cafe mainly due to the inviting entrance since I did not know beforehand it was a popular chain from Malaysia
The same light wood and pastel colour extends into the interiors of the cafe giving customers a very casual and relaxed atmosphere to sit and chill during the weekends. As I visited during the weekends, the cafe was extremely crowded and almost all the seats were taken up
They sell a variety of cakes and desserts as well as some hot food like pizza, sandwiches and soups. We were there for brunch but a couple of items were out of stock so we went with what was available on the menu
As I was on a vegetarian diet that day, I ordered the mushroom and tomato pizza which was a decent size to be shared between 3 people. The pizza is thin crust and has a generous amount of cheese and toppings to ensure every slice has enough flavour and ingredients. I also liked the flavour of the pizza which is well-balanced and not too heavy on the stomach
We also ordered the grilled cajun chicken open-face sandwich which was served with a side salad. The bread used for the sandwich was a toasted ciabatta so the texture of the sandwich was chewy and slightly tougher than normal toast. The entire sandwich would be nicer with more sauce as it was quite dry so eating them together with the salad helps to help the bite moist. In terms of flavour, the chicken was heavily seasoned with cajun powder so it has a spicy peppery kick in each bite
Famous for their waffles, I also ordered a banana chocolate waffle but did not add on the black rice which would have made the waffles more crispy. I went for the normal version which was still quite crispy when served to our table. The waffles were fluffy and milky and the sliced bananas were drizzled heavily with chocolate syrup and sprinkled with nuts. The combination of the waffle was fantastic and we managed to finish the whole waffle even when we ate the pizza and sandwiches
We had iced chocolate and iced americano which were both decent drinks although my nephew feels that the ice chocolate was quite diluted with not enough chocolate flavour
Overall, the food at The Coffee Code was decent and the waffles were nice. The atmosphere was relaxing and chilling as well but it also got crowded very fast and the environment got too noisy for proper conversations. I would visit them again for their waffles on a less crowded day
