The Sushi Bar Dining Plaza Singapura

Driven by 2 words; quality and passion, the Sushi Bar is the brainchild of Chef Eugene Heng and his friends and family. Opening to the public in 2012 in Far East Plaza, its business soon grew beyond the premises and expanded to another shopfront twice its size. Since then they have opened their 2nd, 3rd and 4th outlets in Ngee Ann City, Stanley Street and Plaza Singapura

As a homegrown brand, Sushi Bar upsells their restaurant as a Japanese restaurant offering quality Japanese cuisine at affordable prices for diners from all walks of life. Their main motto is to provide diners with fine food in a casual and unpretentious environment

Their latest outlet at Plaza Singapura is located in the new wing and has an open-concept layout where you can see the rest of the mall so the environment is really very casual and suitable for day-to-day meals and gatherings where the group tend to be more noisy

I ordered the Kaisen Chirashi don which came with salmon, tuna, yellowtail, swordfish, scallops, Ikura, tamago and seared salmon belly. The bowl was priced at SGD 27.90 for small and $31.90 for large. The small serving was just enough for me but most guys would need the larger size to feel more full. The fish were sliced in medium thickness and were generally fresh and sweet tasting. There was nothing too spectacular about the Chirashi which gave me surprises so it is just a decent bowl priced as per other restaurants

We had thinly sliced scallops with mentaiko sauce for sharing and the dish was just very light for a snack. As the scallops were so thinly sliced, they kind of just disappeared into your mouth with a slight charred and mentaiko flavour. I would have preferred if they made it the usual carpaccio method if you want to thinly slice the scallops where you have some kind of citrus dressing to bring out the sweetness of the seafood

The grilled squid was good with a light salt seasoning and a dash of lemon to bring out the charred flavours of the grill and the natural sweetness of the squid. The squid was also grilled well without being overly rubbery or tough

The deep-fried swordfish was decent as a snack as the crust was crispy with bits of fleshy meat which is tender and not overly dry. The overall taste of the fried swordfish tasted like the chicken karage batter

Overall, the food at The Sushi Bar was decent while I wouldn't say they are at overly affordable prices. I would rate them to be similar standards to Sushi Tei or Ichiban Boshi. To give them the benefit of the doubt, we did not order any sushi and it could be the main item they really excel in since they are called the sushi bar
