As confirmed by the owner of Gogi Nara last night and the owner of Iri Garden today, the recent opening of a new golf resort nearby has been both a boon and a bane for restaurants in the area. Busy is good, of course, but too busy - having to turn away customers, delays in service, errors in orders, strains on quality control, running out of ingredients - can be worse than slow. And because golfers don't eat on a regular schedule, the restaurants are packed all throughout the day, with no time for breaks for staff - and nearly impossible to hire additional staff, because nobody will come out this far to work in a restaurant, which is why all the local restaurants are completely family-run, plus maybe a robot (see for example 14.219 Sprouts & Mushrooms (with Bulgogi)).
Most of these people aren't even golfers.
We arrived at 11:15 to find the place already packed, managing to snag the last table, minutes before other customers came in after us. Service took nearly half an hour. The owner didn't even realize that we were there until I was paying the bill on the way out.
