Mahachai (see most recently 14.272 Rice Topped with Soft Shell Crab Yellow Curry) has moved from its previous location directly across the street from Seoul Forest, to a back alley building deeper into Seongsu.
Located 420 m from the office - nearly half as close.
The menu appears more or less to be the same, slightly higher pricing (the morning glory, noted previously to be 8,500 won, is now 9,000 won), but still very reasonable (pad gaprao = 11,000 won).
The food is still pretty good, though I detected some reformulation geared to appease local palates. The pad gaprao, for example, had little or no basil flavor (just a single whole leaf mixed in, as if to infuse a hint of aroma), and it was way too sweet (women tend to like sweet), not at all spicy (no chilies). The egg on top was delicately fried to be soft all around, Korean-style, not crispy on the edges, Thai-style. But overall, the dishes were tasty in themselves, even if not as authentic as before.
At 1230, the place was packed to capacity - almost all customers were female, usually a sign of style over substance.
The occasion was a farewell lunch for JH, a staff member in our general affairs team. She will be missed, both for her work ethic and smarts, and also her bright personality.
