Today's Bible Reading- Job Chapters 12-19.
June's Memory Verse- Proverbs 3:9-10.
Good morning, my friends. I hope you're well. I took an unintended break! Our forecast for today: 89°, sunny with some clouds, 20% chance of rain later today, winds from the east at 3 miles per hour, and humidity is sitting at 86%.
Y'all. It's been so hot. So hot. It was either Friday or Saturday that I went grocery shopping. I think it was Friday. No. It was Saturday. Pop was here. Friday was spent scouring the land for donuts.
I'd had every intention of grocery shopping on Friday. I drove to a little town about 30 minutes away to get a mandarin cake for Pop for Father's Day. I get there and no cake. Bummer. There's another little bakery joint in another little town about 30 minutes from that little town. They make fancy donuts. That was our backup plan in case the first bakery didn't have that cake. I go there. They're sold out! No donuts. Okay. So, I go home. It's hot, I'm overheating. I have no a/c in the car and it's in the mid-90s.
I look around the internet and remember there's a little donut place that was supposed to have opened downtown in the city that's near where I live. I look it up. They're open! I ended up going there. They specialize in something that used to be a big fad: Cronuts. Croissants made like donuts. Cost me $32 for six of these buggers, but I have to admit, they're worth it. They're very delicious. Definitely a treat, though.
Saturday turned into grocery day. Again, it's crazy hot, heat index was near 100°, sunny, no clouds. I get the groceries. Come home. It's too hot for pizza. We ended up getting Wendy's. It was pretty decent. That was a long trip for me too. Long story.
Anyhoo. Pop helped me in the garden Saturday afternoon. I have enough pickling cucumbers to make pickles. Today, if I can swing it, I'll get a water bath canner and some jars and get these pickles made. Also, I need to figure out what to do about Gracie's vet. She needs her rabies booster. She also needs her prescription food renewed.
In other news, the sunberry plants lived out their lives and I pulled them up on Saturday evening. Added more soil to the containers and then planted some lavender seeds.
The corn is starting to pollinate. The next time I write, I'll try to add in a pic I took recently of the sunflowers. Actually. Let me see if I can do that now. Hold up.
Okay! There you go! I also got three zucchinis from the garden. Two were good. One wasn't so good. I tossed that. The other two, I cut the ends off, sliced them lengthwise, gave them a thin coat of olive oil and a sprinkle of Creole seasoning, and we grilled them yesterday. Pop took them off when they were tender crisp. They had picked up the smoky flavor of the grilled steak, too, so mm. Delicious.
Today, I have a lot to do. I need to take care of these pickling cucumbers. For sure. Don't want them to go bad on me. I was searching last night for a water bath canner that's approved for use on a glass cooktop. Found one. Pricey, but in stock at my local hardware store. They also have jars. I'll be making a trip there today.
Laundry needs done, fish need fed, garden needs looked at. Yeah. I have plenty on my plate today.
That's all for now, peeps. Love you all and until next time, stay safe my friends. ❤
