Hi friends, welcome back! Jon and I recently celebrated our three year wedding anniversary, and while we didn't spend the day on an unforgettable vacation, we did celebrate with a delicious dinner. I made a reservation for the Mexican restaurant Casa Enrique in Long Island City. This restaurant opened in 2012 and has been on my radar for a few years. It was the first Mexican restaurant in NYC to get a coveted Michelin Star that it held from 2015-2021. The menu is pretty affordable for a prior Michelin recognized restaurant and features family recipes from Chef Cosme Aguilar.

Once we were seated the waiter brought out chicharrones de harina, or little puffs of wheat flour. They reminded me of bambas but with little flavor, but they were somehow slightly addicting dipped in the trio of salsas.

For an appetizer we ordered the classic Guacamole with homemade tortilla chips.

Jon and I also shared the Tacos de Pescado (Cerveza Battered Market Fish w/ Avocado Sauce) and they were perfectly crispy and had a great combination of flavors. This was my favorite dish, but two handheld tacos for $19 is a little steep in our opinion.

I ordered the Enchiladas de Pollo con Mole de Piaxtla (Chicken breast rolled in corn tortilla with mole sauce, onion, black beans, crema fresca, queso fresco, and avocado). They tasted great but I would've preferred about half the amount of sauce, it was a lot of flavor for me! This is just my preference because I even told Jon enchiladas he made were too flavorful…

Jon chose the Cochinito Chiapaneco (Roasted pork ribs marinated in guajillo chilies, rice and beans) for his entrée and won the clean plate award.

Jon and I were too full for dessert. It's hard to find a great, authentic Mexican restaurant in NYC, but this seems as close as it gets! Three years down, decades to go 😊
