Lunch At The Boathouse

今日はペットワースの美容院に予約を入れていて、ちょうどお昼頃に終わったのでそのままランチに行くことにしました。3度目のアンバリーという場所にある「The Boathouse」。念のために予約を入れておきましたが、ここは結構広いので大抵予約なしでも入れると思います。

I had an appointment with a hair salon in Petworth, so we decided to go to a restaurant for lunch after that.  It' was The Boathouse in Amberley, we'd been there twice before.  We'd made a booking but it's quite a large restaurant so you can probably find a table without a booking.

 

品数はあまり多くありませんが、結構頻繁にいくつかは変わるようです。

The choices are limited but they seem to change a few items often.

 

わたしは、カリカリのアーティチョークのフライ、レモン・アイオリ、アレポ・チリ、をいただきました。1切れ目は脂っこくなくカリッと揚がっていて中はほっくりとしていて美味しいと思ったのですが、2切れを食べようとする頃に酸味ががツンと来て3切れがやっとでした。考えてみればアーティチョークの季節ではないのでフレッシュではなく、酢漬けだったようです。それにしてもあまりに酸っぱくて、結構酸っぱいものも大丈夫な夫も2切れがやっと、あとは残しました。

I ordered "Crispy Artichoke hearts, lemon aioli, Aleppo chillis.  The first bite I thought was great, it wasn't oily, nice and crispy and the texture of inside was very nice, too.  However, when I forked the 2nd piece, I started to feel strong sourness and I couldn't eat more than 3 pieces.  I suppose it's not artichoke season and they must've been preserved in vinegar.  However, they were extremely sour, even my husband, who has much more tolorence to acidity, only had 2 pieces.

こんなに酸っぱいの、食べられる人、いるのかな、と言っていたのですが、少し離れたテーブルのお客さんが完食されていてびっくり。すごく胃に悪そう。

We were saying nobody can eat all of them as they are so sour, but we did see someone finishing all at  a table a little far from us.  I was really surprised because I think it's bad for your stomach to eat so much of something so sour.

ほとんど残っているのを見てスタッフの方が「お口に合いませんでしたか?」と聞いてくださったので「酸味が強過ぎて。。。」とお答えしました。食べ終わってお勘定をお願いしたところ、「アーティチョークの分は引いておきました。」とのことでした。

Seeing we left most, the staff asked us if it wasn't good so we told him it was too sour for us.  When we asked for the bill, a staff told us they redacted the artichoke dish from the bill, which was good of them.

 

夫は、ビーフ・カルパッチョ。

My husband had Beef Carpaccio, venetian dressing.

 

メニューのものは全部あると聞いたので2人共、パパデッレのビーフシンのラグーをオーダーしたのですが、しばらくしてパパデッレは今日は出来ないとのことで、とてもがっかり。で、もう一度、メニューを見てオーダーのし直し。

We were told first that they had everything so we ordered Papadelle with beef shin ragu, but after a little while we were told they don't have that today.  Very disappointing.  So we had to look at the menu again and order something else.

わたしのメイン、イベリコ豚セクレト、ピーチサルサ。セクレトが「秘密」から来ていることは想像出来ましたが詳しいことは知らないままオーダーしていただきました。家に帰ってから調べてみると、「セクレト」というのは首の横の部位でイベリコ豚1頭につき600g(0.4%)しかとれない高級希少部位で、美味しく柔らかく霜降りが入った部位だそうなのですが、一部はそうでもなかったものの、場所によってはかなり歯応えがあり柔らかくはなかったです。でも、臭みは全くなく、これまでイギリスでいただいたことがないタイプの豚肉の歯応えで、臭みは全くなく、とても質が良いものであることはわかりました。

My main - Iberico Secreto, Peach Salsa.  I could guess that 'secreto' is to do with secret but I didn't know what sort of pork it was.  After getting home, I did a little research and found out that it's a special part of Iberico pork, on the side of the neck.  It is only 600g (0.4%) of a pig and very expensive and is supposed to be marbled with fat and very tender.  I don't know why but it wasn't tender, some part was tender enough but some part was quite chewy.  It wasn't gamy and the texture was very different from any pork I've had in England before, I could tell it was a very special pork and I was right.  The only thing was that it wasn't seasoned enough so I had to add some salt.

 

夫のメインは、ローストした茄子とババガヌーシュ、アプリコットのサラダ。前々回、わたしがメインにいただいたものです。悪くはないのですが、これも塩胡椒が足りないのと、ちょっと単調。

My husband had Roast Aubergine, Baba Ganoush Apricot Salad.   I had this once here.  It's not bad but this is also quite under seasoned and is a little monotonous.

 

 

ポークにお野菜がついてこなかったので、キャベツのグリルをいただいて、夫とシェアーしました。メニューではシーザーサラダドレッシングになっていましたがアンチョビが入っているとのことだったので変えていただき、ペストのドレッシングがかかっています。

As pork didn't come with any vegetables, we also ordered Grilled Hispi Cabbage.  On the menu it says Caeser salad dressing but as it had anchovy in they used pesto dressing instead.

 

デザート。夫は、ピスタチオのティラミス。

For dessert my husband had Pistachio Tiramisu.

わたしは、チェリーのフランジパニとバニラアイス。

I had Cherry Frangipane with vanilla ice cream.

 

わたしがメインにオーダーしたイベリコ豚は27ポンド(5600円)、サイドのお野菜が7ポンド(1400円)で合計34ポンド(7000円)!デザートも1つずつオーダーしたので、ワインは飲まず食後のコーヒーも飲まず、飲み物はガス入りのお水だけのオーダーでしたが、サービス料も入れて100ポンド(2000円)というお高いランチでした。この辺りでは美味しいレストランだとは思いますがカジュアルなお店の割に、お高い。

The pork dish I ordered for the main was £27, the side vegetable was £7 so my mai dish was £34 together!  Wow!  We also ordered one dessert each.  We didn't drink any wine or coffee or tea, though, only a bottle of sparkling water and the bill was £100 including the service charge.  I think the food is better than many other restaurants around here, but it does seem very expensive considering it's a very casual restaurant.
