Marco Polo Restaurant in KL

[Non-halal] Marco Polo Restaurant is one of the last places in KL for a semblance of the HK yum cha experience.

And by this we mean: aunties who still serve dim sum from push carts, and Chinese-style banquet decor fitted with chandeliers and Oriental carpets. The other place that offers a similar experience is Xin in Concorde Hotel.

Marco Polo in Wisma Lim Foo Yong

Founded in 1980, this restaurant is located in Wisma Lim Foo Yong and had a make-over during the lockdown.

During weekdays, Marco Polo is a good choice for corporate lunches. On weekends, the dim sum here is quite popular with folks who want a comfortable environment for yum cha.

In fact, we believe Marco Polo is only one of two places left in KL that serves dim sum from push carts - the other being Xin in Concorde Hotel. However, we heard that the quality for the latter had deteriorated over the years.

Yum cha experience in Marco Polo Restaurant

We brought our mum here for dim sum brunch and she enjoyed it. The siew mai, fishballs and pai kuat (RM8.80-12.80) were up to standard.

As it was close to lunch time, we also ordered a few items from their ala carte menu.

The Cantonese Yin Yong (RM22/pax) here is elevated with the addition of char siew, scallops and clams. We enjoyed it. The egg gravy was quite thick and flavourful - and there was adequate wok hei in the dish.

We also found the Bok Choy in Superior Soup (RM26) to be quite decent, with plenty of flavours from the anchovy base, and crispy fried anchovies.

Lunch boxes for takeaway on weekdays

On weekdays, Marco Polo operates a section outside featuring lunch boxes. As Max works nearby, he usually tapaus char siew/siew yoke/chicken rice for lunch, and the occasional dim sum.
