Cast Iron Skillet Steak - In this case, I used New York Strip steak 😋 it's probably the first time I didn't use fresh herbs, even though they're right outside my door 😳 and they look pretty 🤣 I'm going to blame it on the heat. It's 115° outside. Besides, they're just as delicious with only salt and butter. They are to us. I also didn't add pepper or garlic. Either way is dang good. I've always gone with all the above, but I watched a video by Good Ranchers - I didn't find the video I wanted here, but it's close. You can look through their videos; different options - where they went with only salt, tried it, and they're right. That's all you need. That being said, I'll leave you with the typical recipe below. Another difference I do, good or bad 🤭 is, with a piece of paper towel, I swipe my skillet with bacon fat, no additional oil. Then I sear on HOT skillet, add butter, and baste with spoon until steaks reach desired temperature. You really need a thermometer.
Ingredients for cooking steak
• Steak: We like to use Ribeye or New York Strip steaks for this cooking method. For best results, they should be about 1 to 1 ½ inch in thickness.
• Oil: A healthy oil, like avocado oil or evoo to cook
• Salt and pepper: To season the steaks.
• Butter: Once the steaks are seared, butter is added to the skillet and it adds a delicious richness and helps to brown the beef.
• Fresh herbs: Add in some fresh sprigs of rosemary or thyme for added flavor.
• Garlic: Smash the garlic cloves before adding to the skillet for a hint of flavor.
How to cook steak in skillet
• Pat the steaks dry.
• Season with salt and pepper and place in a hot skillet.
• Sear the steaks on each side.
• Add the butter, garlic and herbs to the skillet.
Spoon the melted butter over the top of the steaks until cooked to your doneness.
