Faith Beyond Trials: The Power of Submission and Intercession

By Elizabeth Brooks on July 3, 2024

Resisting the Devil Through Faith, Healing, and Job's Trial

Theme Verse: "Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you." (James 4:7)

In the ever-constant battle between faith and doubt, the Bible provides us with an unshakeable foundation to stand firm against the adversities life throws our way. Through the lens of Scripture, we learn not just to survive the storms, but to thrive, bearing witness to the manifest works of God in our lives.

Resisting the Devil:

To resist the devil, we must first submit ourselves to God. This submission is not a sign of weakness, but of ultimate strength. It signifies our trust in the Creator's plan and our reliance on His strength rather than our own. When faced with temptations or trials, remember the promise in Ephesians 6:11, "Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes."

Believing in the Midst of Poverty and Sickness:

How can we talk of poverty in spirit or body when we've been lavished with grace? The story of the man born blind (John 9:1-3) illustrates that our struggles, be they physical or spiritual, are opportunities for God's works to be displayed in us. Through faith, we understand that our sufferings are not always a consequence of sin but can be the very platform upon which God's glory is revealed.

Salvation, Healing, and Deliverance:

"By His wounds we are healed" (Isaiah 53:5). This powerful declaration reminds us that healing and deliverance are part of our inheritance through Christ. As believers, we are called to exercise our faith, not only in prayer for ourselves but also in intercession for others. When we lay hands on the sick, we do so with the belief that they shall recover, for the power of Christ works through us.

The Trial of Job:

Job's story is a testament to enduring faith in the face of unimaginable loss and suffering. Even when his friends and his wife doubted God's goodness, Job refused to curse God. His trials, from health to personal grief, were not punishments but tests of faith. Job 42:10 reveals the turning point: "After Job had prayed for his friends, the LORD restored his fortunes and gave him twice as much as he had before." Job's healing began when he shifted his focus from his pain to praying for others.

Resisting the devil means more than standing against temptations; it involves an active faith that sees beyond current struggles to God's eternal promises. Like Job, our greatest victories often come when we look beyond our circumstances and pray for others. In doing so, we declare our faith not in what we see but in the One who has promised never to leave us nor forsake us.

Practical Steps:

  1. Daily Submission: Begin each day by submitting your will to God's and asking for His guidance.
  2. Word and Prayer: Arm yourself with Scripture and prayer to stand firm against doubt and deception.
  3. Intercession: Make a commitment to pray for others, especially those going through their trials.
  4. Faith Declarations: Speak words of faith over your life and the lives of others, declaring God's promises to be true, regardless of circumstances.

By embodying these principles, we not only resist the devil but pave the way for God's glory to be manifest in our lives, leading us from victory to victory.
